Let me just say this: The computer is returned (because of the Vista operating system). It was rolled out Tuesday and has a lot of bugs. The technicians I talked with said it's a sophisticated operating system and will be difficult (in its current format) for home users who have only medium computer experience.

I'm hoping by the time we absolutely have to have another computer the Vista bugs have been fixed.

My husband called Bell South on Tuesday and complained about our service. (I had called a few days earlier and been told it was our computer). Anyway, they sent out a technician and gave us a new modem and our old computer is running fine and is hooked back up. Asta lavista Vista.

Dennis Hasert was asked to fly military wheb goibg home and back, for security reasons after 9/11. It sounds like he didn't take advantage. BUT THEN ALONG CAME BELLOMOUTH Pelosi, queen bee of the democRat house, and she thinks her WHOLE family deserves to fly at OUR expense. You know they'll ALL take their vacations via military air! And if I flew I'd have to fly SPACE A!

I was afraid that we were going to have to get a new computer and deal with Vista. I am not interested until they get the bugs worked out, which will be about 2 years from now, given how Microsoft works.

I give you a great deal of credit for at least trying it. I wouldn't have messed with it at all.

I was in tears of frustration this afternoon, mostly because I was up until 4:00 a.m. this morning working on it. It's horrible, at least in its present form. I don't know why Gates pushed this thing and neither do the technicians.

One word of advice for when you do need a new computer and what we intend to do next time: We'll pay someone to download our settings and set up the computer the way we like.

Do you know how often we on FR use/hit the "Refresh" button? Well, on Vista, according to two technicians I talked with, there is no "Refresh" icon so I can either squint and search this crummy looking toolbar and hit this tiny weeny little button that means but doesn't say refresh, or I can hit F5. The options for the toolbar are the most limited I've ever seen.

Ack. What a waste of two days. I'm going to settle in and read a good book tonight and forget about the last two days.

Some versions of IE don't have the refresh icon either. I ran into this when we were redoing our computer earlier this week.

I like things JUST FINE THE WAY THEY ARE. I don't want any improvements, since they usually end up costing money and don't do what they promise.

Exactly. Unfortunately, it's just about impossible to buy a new computer without getting Vista, as of Tuesday. I'm keeping my old Microsoft XP disks and downloading them to whichever new computer we end up getting.

Right now I'm ticked at Bell South for putting us through all this when it was clearly unnecessary because with the new modem, everything is running just fine.

Oh, I'm grumpy tonight and the phone hasn't stopped ringing with family members wanting to know how we like the new computer. I'm trying not to give them an earful and just saying through clenched teeth "It didn't work out and we returned it and I don't care to discuss it". They get the hint quick :-)

I don't know what that means, tillacum. But in any event, the computer is gone and good riddance. I'm off to read and try to enjoy what's left of the day.

Cast off? New hearing aids?

I get one of my new hearing aids tomorrow. The other one will be later because audiologist botched up the insurance form.

Even with the new vista you should be able to change your browser from explorer to firefox.

Nice big refresh button right at the top.

Sorry about your bad experience Peach, but I am so glad your old computer is working again.

Hello not. Thanks for posting that No "S" diet awhile back. I passed it on to my husband...sigh. "S" for simplicity, and maybe success!

Did you ever join Curves?

Peach you've sure had a hard time with that mess.

I still use Netscape 7.2., but my husband says I need to switch to IE...I'm skeptical. That's my computer deal of the day.

The cast is OFF!, but the hand smarts a tad and the wrist needs some work. It does not want to move very much. The new hearing aids are great, I CAN HEAR, without first saying, "huh?" Hopefully your insurance straightens out. It's terrible to be lopsided. Been there, done that.

You either told me about Firefox or oldngray told me; I wrote it down but by then I was just so frustrated I decided to just ditch the entire thing.

What is firefox, anyway? I'm so dumb about this stuff; I'll just pay someone to get the next computer the way I want it.
