The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Actually, I won't mind handing him back to his little girl. Puppies take a lot of management! His great feature is he is pretty content to be in his little playpen in the living room. He doesn't whine and cry in there, he entertains himself pretty well.

... and he hasn't messed in there but once, and he was having some digestive upset that day, so he wasn't feeling good. But he can't just be left in there, I have to take him out to run and potty a couple times an hour, or put him on his tether outside for awhile. Right now he's on a rug on my desk with me, for as long as he can be a calm quite puppy. If he squirms and tries to lick my ears... he goes back in the pen!

He can't be loose in the house, or he collects and chews underwear and socks. ;~\ Not to mention sneaking off to find places to potty.

So it's been fun... but I won't be holding him back when they return from their trip :~D

Good morning. I haven’t checked the news yet, I slept in this morning. The word last night was that we’ve got a front coming in with high winds, due tomorrow but the wind was starting to pick up last night. I think they are hoping to contain the fire by 7/3. It’s much less smoky today to there must be some wind blowing it out.

Neat garden pictures, I like all your mixed collection of pots. It’s very casual and homey :~D

The plant with the red leaves, they sell as a houseplant up here. :~)

It takes maybe 15 minutes. It’s a lot better since I got one of those Miracle Grow feeder/sprayer things for the end of the hose. They put out a lot of water in a very short period of time and it’s in nice soft shower that doesn’t beat things up. I water every morning before I go to work, so it doesn’t take all that much for each plant since they haven’t had a chance to dry completely out.

The plants with the red leaves are Caladiums. The white striped ones are too, just a different variety. I’ve never seen them sold as house plants before, but have often thought they’d be pretty in the house. They like the shade, but they do look better if they get a fair amount of early morning or late afternoon sun. Otherwise the color is not as good. They’re more green, I guess to generate more energy with the low light that they have. They aren’t winter hardy when planted in the ground here, so I keep them in pots and put them in the in-law’s basement in late Fall when they start to play out and get them back out sometime in late March when they start to sprout again.

Very pretty. I love it. Gardening to make a nice peaceful sitting area is fun:) I really like the ferns? Do you have to bring them in in the winter?

Puppies are alot of work. After raising Susie, I doubt I’ll ever want to do it again, at least not an indoor dog. I got her in Jan. right after a snow/sleet storm and the temps stayed low enough that it stayed on the ground for a month or so...getting up in the middle of the night to take a puppy out was not my idea of fun at all.

Me either...I’m so sick of clouds and mud.

They are forecasting rain all weekend. I don’t know what that will do to our Festival this weekend...and I was looking forward to it.

Have you had any problem with flooding?

So have you got your weight loss under control?

I have some caladiums planted in my front garden, and they are really pretty. I’ll get some pictures later today, I’m at Jenny’s this morning. The ones I have are white, and have planted them in front of the big brown rocks out there. They really stand out.

I think it was all that praying for rain we did last summer. God said, “ok, here it comes!”

Yes, I’m having major trouble with my barn flooding. My tack room is damp and all my leather is covered in green slime. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m gonna get the kids out there today and start cleaning and oiling tack. I need to get ya’ll some pictures.

Supposed to keep raining all week. I’m betting 4th of july is a wash out, too.

I do think I have my weight loss under control. I’ve maintained at 113 for about 2 weeks now.

I’m sorry about the flooding. Rocky’s stall for some reason has filled with water. I figure it’s because he has a cut on his lower leg, and it just happened to make it difficult to treat:\

I’m going to try to put in a small drainage hole out the back, and then as soon as this stops, and I get my bobcat back I’m going to have to do some serious landscaping in front of his stall to stop it.

You know tho, there is no great loss without some small gain...even in my rocky pastures grass is growing...

That’s true about the small gain. We have more grass than we’ve ever had. Everything is beautiful and green. What’s not under water, anyway.

Is Rocky’s cut healing up ok?

Time to run to the store and get some crafts for the kids. This summer has sure been dull and housebound.

It’s healing, but very slow. I’m tired of doctoring:).

I think just the wet and mud keep it irritated. No way will a wrap stay on, so it requires frequent cleanings and new medicine put on.

But he’s not gimping on it any more.
