This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Well, I wan’t that impressed with my new farrier over the phone either, it may be just dreading the change and we read to much into too little:)...I think it’s a trait of women, especially where their horses are concerned:)
Hey, if you think the woman would be better, I’d call her phone every hour and leave a message, sound desperate:), the worst that can happen is she would finally call and tell you to quit calling:) Sometimes I wonder if they dread new customers as much as we dread new farriers.
I don’t know if I mentioned but my new farrier told me he didn’t shoe for anyone who barrel raced:). In fact he said he wouldn’t have shoed for me if he hadn’t gotten a recommendation from Debbie about me, and even then wouldn’t have come if I barrel raced...

I don’t know if the woman would be better or not... Her name just came up twice, and I’ve never had a lady farrier.
What’s he got against barrel racers? Are they hard customers, or does he just not like the sport?
LOL...they’re hard customers:)
He said they are too prone to try fads, to change what they want to often, to even change farriers for no reason just because someone who is winning commented on their farrier being good. I can see his point, and agree with what he said.
Kristy thinks she’s going to have to find a new farrier in the near future, her’s is talking about quitting. She wants me to tell my farrier Rowdy is just a new horse I got:)...I’ll probably have to do the same with Dot when Jenny starts riding again:) I won’t feel bad about that, one I consider all those horses mine in one sense...and two, my girls are not like the typical barrel racers in this area, they have some sense. Both the girls and Charlie have been as impressed as I have been over the huge improvement in Harley. I don’t think I’ve commented lately, but his feet, particularly his frog is looking so much more healthy...I didn’t expect shoeing to make that much change in that area, especially so fast. His whole foot just looks better, even in this the sixth week. My farrier comes this Fri. I’m thinking of having a surprise party for my new hero to show my appreciation:)

I’m just glad to hear Harley’s doing so good! That’s just great. Should post some pictures... some old versus now.
I will get some in the next few days. Today it’s drizzly and gloomy here, I’m getting ready to head to town, just to kill some time.

There is something about "Under the spreading Chestnut Tree" that just doesn't fit a woman....and I have this thing about women doing men's jobs. I did use one lady a few times. The shoes never stayed on past a week.
The Country Supply catalog came and I thought there's Bay on the cover! A perfect shot over the ears going down the trail. Then I saw the blue headstall. :)
That's great! I know you're ambivalent about it, but I don't think you'll regret it. My NB farrier didn't have the best stall-side manner either when he first started, but now he's really talkative and shares a lot of good information with me. Some people just have to warm up to you and all you have to do is express an interest in their work and they open right up.
She's tempting me to trade one of my blues for both the mother and the foal....and I'm REALLY tempted...
Oh my goodness! Isn’t she pretty!
I don't think it's us, then... we have no blue headstall. The latest one we have as a fly mask on it... did you just get a new one?
Understood :~)
It’s really weird weather here... yesterday it was always doing two things at once, never for more than five minutes at a time. Sun with wind... sun with rain... rain with hail... rain with sun... wind with rain. Very “changeable”.
Oh boy.... so would I be!
Yeah....all I need is ANOTHER mouth to feed.
I figure I could probably sell the mare when the baby is weaned and then see how the little one turns out when she gets breaking age. She would make somebody a shore-nuff fancy riding mule that’s for sure.
What’s a couple more... :~)
A big help YOU are! ;o)
This is Miss Ellie, the soon-to-be 2yr old. She's the whitest of the bunch right now, but also the most moth-eaten looking. She was much darker this winter, but all the dark shed out first and left the white, and it's coming out by the handfulls now and is an incredible mess when it gets on your clothes. She was playing with a leak in the hose when I took this one...
This is Hope. She's shedded out much slicker on her shoulders and around the hip but still has big patches of white left on her. She took the hose leak away from Ellie...
And Bob just had to get in on the hose action. You just can NOT operate a water hose around these three without them demanding to be sprayed. They'll get right in your face. I've never seen anything like it!...
Only thing I’ve seen like it is Becky’s Rusty. Mine wouldn’t do that, they’d bug out if a hose sprayed them and I didn’t have a hold of them.
It is interesting how much yours change. Pony gets blacker right as she’s shedding. Her shoulders and neck are nearly black right now, and lots of dapples on her side, but when she’s done she’ll be back to red.
Well, I would just let them know how long it ~does~ take to do each one, and be realistic about how much you can promise to do. On the one hand, it’s a good thing that you’re too busy... it means there’s good demand for you. Just be fair to yourself with how much you take on. :~)
Wow, your horses are beautiful:) Rusty never whitened up like that..he’d get lighter but not that much. I really have grown to like roans a lot.
