The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

No - we only feed dry, either chicken and rice or lamb and rice, and I don’t think any dry has been part of the recall.

I found my cat food - Whiskas Dry Food - has the wheat gluten in it. My cats have been throwing up a lot lately so I’m not taking any chances, switched them over to Purina One with NO wheat gluten. The dogs are all on Purina One already. I just don’t trust anything with wheat gluten in it at all right now.

When I was a kid, the pets got table scrapes. Never seemed to bother them.

Did they ever decide what happened? Was it a natural toxin, or tampered with?

You would think I'd learn my lesson :) - over the years I've never had any trouble with feed unless I used something other than Purina - dogs, cats, horses. With Purina I've never gotten moldy feed, bad corn, or poisoned animals. Hey, maybe I should do a commercial for them and get all this feed at reduced prices.

I do feed the dogs the Talk To Me treats and it has wheat gluten but I went to their website and they not only said they don't get wheat gluten from China, they stated where they got it. I figure it's safe :)

LOL - we could do a commercial. Something along the lines of from one end of the country to the other.

Good Morning.

It is suppose to get close to 50 today, so maybe I will be able to do somethings outside. There are very big, long icicles hanging from the barn. Bodie was standing right under them yesterday. What a surprise for him, if they would have fell off!

We’ve fed both Purina and Blue Seal in the past.

Well, I’ve made an appointment with a NB farrier that was recommended by the NB school that’s North of here. Patty from the farrier forum recommended that school.

He gave me two names... a man and a woman, I called them both, left a message with the woman, she didn’t call back, got the guy actually on the phone. His name is Randy. He’s coming Thursday morning.

I wasn’t all that impressed with the phone conversation, I am pretty conflicted about it still, I dread talking to Mark. I feel like I’m breaking up with him. - Or I would be, if he ever called me.

Why?

I feel like I’m breaking up with him. - Or I would be, if he ever called me.

UUUMMMM....I think he broke up with you, so I wouldn't feel bad.

I know... that's why it's so messed up that I do. ;~)

I don't know why I wasn't impressed, I just feel like I did all the talking and got short or one word answers. I guess 'doing good phone' is not necessarily a prerequisite for good shoeing. We'll see :~)

The woman was actually recommended by two people I talked to, so I had been hoping she'd return my call... she still hasn't.
