This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

OK, that may have been sick but it was pretty funny and creative.
It hasn't gotten above 10 degrees for the past two days!
Nasty critters but not quite as nasty as possums.
One of my dogs caught a possum once. We had to rinse her mouth out with Listerine . . . yeccch!
When I worked for a paving company, we subbed out the striping. They used trucks like this (only not so nice and new):
Yeah, having to do that really takes a lot out of you.
Possums are just creepy-looking. They come in my feed room all the time. It's pretty well guaranteed that if I go down there after dark there'll be one in there when I turn on the light. I guess they come for the leftover catfood. The way they bumble around when they're walking and that pale color that they are, they look like some re-animated dead thing. Gives me the willies!
Her outfit didn't come in:'(
We vaccinate against EPM. There is a lady down by me that lost a TB last year to EPM. Very sad situation.
Oh yeah, it is here too. I've known of several people who have had horse to die of it around here. I vaccinate all of mine for it. I just bought a new vial of vaccine this past weekend. Had to get it from the vet because you can't order that one from the vet supply places yet, or the West Nile vaccine either. DANG it's expensive when you have to buy it from the vet!
What kinda outfit did you have ordered?
We do also. The QH that Alison uses for shows, had EPM. With an early diagnosis and treatment, he is fine now. So sorry, about the lady who lost her horse. I imagine a lot has to do with the immune system.
I think you are right. He was a rescue horse and had been in an accident while being trailered. No one could get him in a trailer unless sedated. She had put a lot of work into him and had him to the point that he was loading great and riding good. The story kinda reminded me of the movie Horse Whisperer with Robert Redford.
I should get yall to do mine. I'm fixing to do it by hand. I have 3 parking spaces. The one in the middle has a small ramp. If you don't go up the ramp you have to step up on the porch and it's a little high. The first one had a handy capped parking sign. I was told I could take it down if I wanted. I wanted. You should have seen the people that parked there with handicapped stickers. The first day , I parked there after the sign was down, here come the wrecker. I've had dealings with this guy before and I was watching out my window, hoping he would try. He figured it out and went on though.
The second space is right in front of the ramp. The restaurant traffic pulls right up over it. I want to paint yellow lines sideways so it isn't a space anymore. Sometimes I just park longwise across all 3 and p/o all of them. Oh and if a truly disabled person needs access, I'll make them a spot as long as they aren't wearing 6 inch heels.
Cheerleading.
And some of 'em are ~really~ good at playing dead!
Aww, I'll bet she'll be a cutie when she gets it! Sorry it didn't come through for her.
GACK!! I remember that thing being under your house.
Possum Mummy Returns!

We came across one on the trail in broad daylight a couple of weekends ago when I went out to my cousin's place and it did something I've never seen them do. It didn't fall over and play dead like I've seen them do before, it froze in it's tracks. I mean in mid-stride. Her dogs were with us and they never even saw it. Ran right past it. One of them even stood within about 2 feet of it and never saw it. The only reason I did is because I saw it before it quit moving. It was kinda cool.
Pulled it out of the archives, I did ;~)

I haven't seen a live one in a looong time.
Well count yourself lucky then coz they're nasty.

I saw a ground hog in broad open daylight this past Sunday too. They're funny looking. Much cuter than a posssum. He was running across my in-law's yard and he was so low to the ground that he looked like he didn't have no legs. Strange looking little booger he was!
