This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Zulu, the little cocker mix, was my roller... and she was such a pretty dog ;~). She'd roll in anything that stunk. Dead things, garbage, even big ole green manure piles.
Mine seem to have an inexhaustible appetite for horse manure. Then they want to come give you a great big kiss.
I've shoveled so much of the stuff over the years that I really don't care - I figure I've ingested plenty along the way. But it really grosses out my kids and my husband!
Maybe he is just tired of people working with his feet.
My sister has had 2 senior cats just curl up on the bed and go to sleep and never wake up. They just looked like they were sleeping when she found them. That's the kind of death that I would wish for all my animals. But the weird thing is that they both chose the EXACT same spot to do it, and there were several years between them. It had us wondering if that was some kind of Kitty-to-Heaven portal. ;o)
I didn't say she didn't do that too :~)
Hey, it's better than when they lick their OWN butt and then want to come give you kisses. GACK!
That is strange.
I've always feared, though, with the old ones, that if they went to sleep and died... how long would I walk right by them and not know? Might be a day or two with the cats, because they don't have a set feeding time, just walk by and fill the bowl when it's empty.
At first, Shelley wouldn't put one in her mouth. She didn't even want to LOOK at it . . . we started with pigeons and worked our way up to mallards.
They look uninhabited, if that makes sense.
Oh, yuck, let's not even go there! I'm not easily grossed out, but that does it every time!
I've heard about that happening to people working in offices. Especially people who come in early and stay late and don't socialize much. That would be horrible! Hell, if I don't say something every 5 minutes, poke me to see if I'm dead! ;o)
Really?! Even live ones?
LOL!! And you never know when they've just done it either.
I think it's their feather oil, because it sticks to your hands.
Or those people living alone that nobody notices until the mail starts piling up . . .
Sounds nasty! I've never been around ducks much, but that makes sense now that you mention it.
Ok, this is getting morbid. The horse poop, duck stink topic is looking more appealing all the time.
The last few weeks have been really bad. Making up for all the nice days in December.
Congrats on the weight loss! I didn't diet, but did lose 15 since I stopped working. Sure helps when you don't sit in front of a PC all day munching.

Who ever put up that sign was one sick person! ;o)
