The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It's been very very slow:\ but since I'm going the right direction I've remained patient:)

I started the Mon. after Thanksgiving.

I believe I'm quit a bit older then you too, makes a difference.

At least that's what that overfed groundhog said last month.

Little liar! We have about the same amount, 3-4 inches. A few days ago, we did see grass. The temps in the teens are getting me down. You just hate to get outside. Although, I did take the Goldens out for a run in the woods. Those pups are so full of energy and they need to get out.

Sure helps when you don't sit in front of a PC all day munching.

You got that right! I can drop 2 or 3 pounds over the weekend, just from moving around and doing yard and barn work. During the week I'm a slug.

I know it's wrong, but I can't help laughing every time I see that.

It didn't do the poor kitty any harm, he was already dead. He probably couldn't read it, anyhow.

That is a definite possibility:)

It could be too, he just doesn't like being messed with while he eats.

I'm going to try tomorrow putting it on before I give him his feed.

Does this stuff heat up some, tingle, etc?

What are you using? It should not burn, but the trimmed hairs might feel strange to him. It's ok to rub it in the hair line. He might be just getting irritated at you for disturbing his meals.

It's made by a company called Healthy Hair, Hoof moisture.

The guy at the feed store recommended it when I was griping about the price of the The Rainmaker brand:)

He said he liked this stuff better. The ingedients are about the same as all the other hoof moisturizers.

LOL...I'm going to have to show that to Mack:) YOu know that's what he does, paints stripes. Usually on parking lots, but he has done some road work.

I'll bet he's already seen it. That'd be like an occupational hazard to him.

LOL!

I've also seen the one where they veered around a dead armadillo.

It actually makes more sense to just forge ahead than put a jog in the line.

(although I suppose somebody could get off the striping machine and grab a shovel. Does it mess up the paint application if you stop the striper's forward motion?)

Good question. Becky would probably know.

You know, we didn't used to have armadillos here, but it seems like in the last 4 or 5 years that they're EVERYWHERE. I see as many of them dead on the road as possums.

No, as long as you stop squeezing the handle the paint stops spraying. Then you would have just picked up the animal, lined up and kept going.

But these lines were probably made with a truck not a hand pushed stripper. I don't know how hard it would be to stop one of those.

Interesting. All I've ever seen is those big ol' trucks.

These are for parking lots mostly. Mack has done short pieces of road work that need something special.

My sister has had 2 senior cats just curl up on the bed and go to sleep and never wake up.

I wish that had happend with my 19 year old cat I lost last year. I had to play god with him and that was tough. He was abandoned in the vet clinic I worked at in California and I bottle fed him and raised him from a newborn. He got so arthritic he could not walk anymore and he lost so much weight and muscle tone.
