Sorry about this vanity, but I am looking for some books to read over my 3 week vacation. I am very interested in the American Revolution and WWII.
I currently have purchased "Churchill" by Roy Jenkins and "Alexander Hamilton" by Ron Chernow

They have nothing to do with the wars you mention but provide vital information about the current war America is waging. I consider them essential reading for every Freeper:
"Destructive Generation" and "Deconstructing the Left," both by Peter Collier and David Horowitz.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Thanks! I almost bought it yesterday and now I'm kicking myself for not having done so. A FReeper recommendation is always the best.

James Madison- A Biography by Ralph Ketchum
Truman by David McCullough
In depth interesting biographies, I would recommend both.

Brave Men by Ernie Pyle. He wrote it as he followed the US Army from Sicily to Paris. An excellent, first person reminder of the price paid for the America we love today.

you're quite welcome! it is always better to have recommendations! have you read Dog is my Co-Pilot? it is a series of short stories written by authors about their relationships with their dogs. Marley and Me is another nice dog book!

I went to one of his book signings last month and had my picture taken with him.
Tiny little fellar, got to give him credit, he stayed and signed every single book to an overflow crowd at B&N and many folks had stacks of ten or more books each.
B&N had to issue different colored tickets to late arrivals so they couldn't jump the line. I liked that idea as I was there for two hours.

For WWII, "Up Front", Bill Mauldin's classic cartoons of life in the Army (still in print).
Another WWII book I can recommend is "Monte Cassino: The Hardest-Fought Battle of World War II" by Matthew Parker (also in print).

Heart of a Hawk by Deborah H. Tainsh

I just finished "The Road" (fiction)by Cormac McCarthy, and would certainly recommend this one. Currently reading "Mayflower". So far, so good.

I read it after you recommended it. Good book. I bought myself one book this fall.....I have yet to read it, it's The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield. I can't wait to sit down with it. Too much to do right now, but I will soon.
I went on-line and spotted it while buying a copy of The Story of Holly and Ivy. I used to read it to my youth group of young girls and they would cry their hearts out every year. One of the girls, my daughter's best friend since first grade, told me a couple of years ago that it is one of her fondest Christmas memories....the meeting each year when I got out the book and read it to them. Now she will have it for when she has children of her own. She just graduated and is now a nurse. Every Christmas Eve she comes by the house with a tray of Christmas cookies from her mom - one of my fondest Christmas memories.
