COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) A 14-year-old boy who was throwing eggs at cars along with two other teenagers was shot and killed by someone who had been in a sport-utility vehicle that was hit, police said.
Danny Crawford was killed by a gunshot wound to his upper body, Franklin County Coroner Brad Lewis said. He died in an alley on the city's west side early Saturday, authorities said.
The teens were throwing eggs at cars when an SUV that was struck chased them, Detective Tim Huston said. The vehicle stopped and several gunshots were fired, he said.
Police were looking for the shooter, who fled in the SUV, Sgt. Dana Norman said. The SUV believed to be involved was found a short time later near where Crawford died.
The other teens were not hurt, police said.
Yep, it's all true. Don't do the crime, unless etc. Trouble here, is some people are saying it's quite ok to shoot an unarmed 14 year old to death for throwing an egg at a car. The kid's actions were reckless, and possibly very dangerous, but chasing him down, cornering him, and then shooting him to death is just plain rotten, and the murderer should get the same thing. Anyone who condones this should picture himself in that alley, holding the gun, looking squarely at this kid, and seriously ask themselves if they would have emptied it into him.
"...I believe a 14 year old is old enough to know right from wrong ..."
Knowing it's wrong is a far cry from knowing how seriously wrong it is, and I doubt that he really understood that throwing an egg at a car could have such drastic consequences. We can't know one way or another, we don't (and never will) know him.
"...this kid was heading in the wrong direction and probably would have been a larger problem on society sometime..."
Or not. It's pure speculation. Lots and lots of 14 year olds get into minor scrapes, then grow up to be perfectly responsible adults. Maybe all those who support killing this kid know they were never bad boys or girls at this age; or maybe they're just forgetful. Or hypocrites.
"the brain stem hasn't developed in a lot of these "kids"....sad to say..but true..."
all they have is a brain stem, obviously missing the rest
"I suppose it's a deterrent, but the ends don't justify the means."
if you can't control the end (the consequences) you'd BEST control your actions
if the kid hadn't been with a bunch of egg throwers he wouldn't be dead now would he??
And whose choice was that??
Remeber the root cause......
"Too stupid for mere words to express."
Couldn't agree with you more. Pretty asinine, comparing the victimless act of spitting on the side walk to the egging of autos on the Interstate, that has the potential of causing major mayhem.
TANKS for the ping,,,Every few months, around here, Somebody
is killed or badly hurt by kids dropping rocks etc. from
the overpasses,,,One lady was killed by a watermelon,,,
Another was killed as well as a child in the backseat by
a chunk of concrete,,,
Would these kids have switched to rocks when they ran out of eggs...?
If you are hit with an egg you don't know what has happened until you examine your auto or see the person throwing the egg.
If you see it being thrown you have no excuse for not exercising self restraint because you know that it is only an egg.
On the other hand if you stop your vehicle to find out what happened you discover that your auto was hit with an egg that can easily be washed off.
My post responded to unforseen incidents while driving, such has having a windshield shattered by gravel flying from a dump truck. It's unsettling but it's only a windshield. Nothing about your vehicle is worth the killing of a 14 year old unless that youngster is clearly approaching you with the intent of doing harm to you or someone with you.
It's only a car.
Was anybody driving the SUV? ;o)
And immediately put him in charge of combat operations in Iraq.
In California to throw any object at a moving vehicle is a felony.
Just reporting the facts as they exist.
Where would the bleeding hearts be if the SUV driver had swerved his vehicle because he was surprised and ran over and killed another innocent child.
Rational question to ask in todays world. However, it could confuse and anger those who lead with their hearts, and not their heads. Not sure if that includes you, but it undoubably includes JV, based on her hysteria.
That young adult's actions had consequences.
Feel free to elaborate, but this also seems straight forward and rational for all but Leftists and other irrational people.
Maybe he'd still be around today if his parents would have raised him to respect the law and other people's property.
Again, blood in the water for those whose hearts override their minds. JV is there, where are you?
No sorrow here.
Now THERES a capper if there ever was one. I suspect it was that statement that sent you and JV completely around the bend.
============
So were not sorry that a (most likely) gang banger is dead.
And for THAT you stand on the overpass and drop a verbal rock on me as I drive by?!!!
You and JV obviously let your hearts override any reading comprehension abilities and common sense you might have.
I had no desire to exchange any words with JV. Her posts are those of an idiot.
You were reduced to misrepresenting my position, just as JV misrepresented Plains Drifters', either purposely or by accident. Without this false portral, your posts also look like those of a raving idiot.
I think he should. I think he should be put before a firing squad, where the squad practices shooting out his knees. He's a worthless murderer.
"Oh... it was just youthful hijinks..."
And if it had ended in this kid victim dying from his "prank"... would you still be singing the same tune?
A crime is a crime. Rightfully, the victim of said crime, at the point of the offense, is a 1000 times more likely to punish said criminal more effectively than the legal system ever could.
I'd say getting shot at is a pretty damn good deterrent for criminal mischief and vandalism... Don't you?
The "it's only an egg" crap doesn't wash... What next? It was only a little B&E. Only a little sexual assault? Only a little grand theft auto? After all, no one is losing their life over it right?
And people wonder why crime doesn't go away.
The "rational questions" were posed to diminish the heinousness of the act of running down a 14 y/o and murdering him. He was murdered! His life was taken in a vicious way w/o just cause! It's that simple. The questions were posed as they were to imply just cause existed and the murder was understandable.
Re: That young adult's actions had consequences.
" Feel free to elaborate, but this also seems straight forward and rational for all but Leftists and other irrational people."
What is rational is to note and realize that a murder was committed here. That there was no just cause for the action, not in the slightest. The responsibility for the murder belongs entirely to the murderer, not the victim. The consequences of throwing an egg at a car do not include being murdered. Do you understand that?
"So were not sorry that a (most likely) gang banger is dead."
It doesn't look like it understand it at all, because all you've done is attempt to demean the murdered 14 y/o victim. I note your distinct failure to comprehend the viciousness of the adult's behavior in chasing the kid down and killing him. It was completely unjustified!
You forgot to ping Jim35
A crime is a crime? Your sense of justice and responsibility comes from a cesspool.
