It's Time for Justice: Drop the charges vs. Duke lacrosse players
The Mercury News ^ | October 16, 2006 | Jason Whitlock

Posted on 10/18/2006 2:45:47 PM PDT by zaxxon

The charges against the Duke lacrosse players should be dropped immediately, and the people demanding the dismissal the loudest and most forcefully should be the very people who have made a living allegedly fighting against racial injustice.

I've said this before, but it's worth saying again: Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton should be in Durham, N.C., today, promising civil disobedience until the charges are dropped and prosecutor Mike Nifong resigns.

Ed Bradley and "60 Minutes" should never be mistaken for Thurgood Marshall and the Supreme Court. Bradley is just a TV reporter and "60 Minutes" is just a TV show, but you couldn't help but be moved by the story they aired Sunday night about the Duke lacrosse rape allegations.

The three accused players gave their first interviews, and two of them claimed they had airtight, documented alibis. The accuser's one-night sidekick, Kim Roberts, seems to have settled on telling the truth rather than trying to spin the story for fame or money. She contradicted several of the statements the accuser gave to police.

I'm sure Alleva's on double secret probation and kowtowing to whatever Brodhead tells him to. Having been unassociated with the late unpleasantness, Danowski has a clean slate and can speak his mind. That's one advantage he has in rebuilding the team that Pressler would not have had.

Feinstein is probably too hard left to either offer an opinion on this OR to be fair on this allegation.

Abrams is not a reporter anymore. He might well not have wanted to involve himself such a panel because of his new position.

True enough. But his position was unique. He was one of the first, if not the first, to realize that we'd "been had". Of the people on the panel, he's also the first to have seen the first discovery in its entirety. You're right that he might have plenty of reasons for not wanting to attend. And let's face it, at the time, he was in the same line of work as Nancy Grace and Greta van Susteren. Those are not people with whom I'd like to be lumped. Perhaps he's not considered to be part of the "respectable" media.

Go here and you can hear an interview with Susannah Meadows by Frank Stasio prior to the panel discussion. This apparently was a warm up for both as they are trying out the same points as she said at the panel.

Just read JinC for today and visited the Duke lacross incident page

I read the FAQ and a few other enclosures was about all I could take. No offense to the dukies on this thread but I've got to ask myself if there's anywhere in the South, a single greater collection of LDWB than in the Duke admin building...

What an embarassment... And I thought David Boren was a wuss...

Dirty tricks from the Monks campaign?

Nothing wrong with that sign. Monks is an official write in candidate. The slogan, "Its your choice not the governors" is a good one. It is a Dim govenor and you are not getting a GOP DA from him

All of that said, Durham would be better served by an honest Dim rather than Nifong. And Monk can only serve to split the vote. So I prefer him not do this. But it is hardly a dirty campaign trick.

I agree Abrams was in a unique position. But I am suggesting that as a new executive Abrams might well have thought it best not to confuse his role and not revert to acting as a reporter.

Monks has every right to run a campaign, but the prick knows full well he's sticking it to the lax players. He's earning his moniker "Nifong's Little Helper".

I doubt that Monks cares about the lax boys charged with rape. I think he sees the entire episode as an opportunity to sneak himself into this particular elective office. The lax boys are as much a campaign tool for him as they are for Liefong. At any rate, he's deluding himself and is nothing more than a spoiler. He's also an idiot because he's going to end up being the most reviled man in Durham County if he splits enough votes away from Cheek to cause Liefong to be elected.

Abrahms is still a reporter. He's still NBC's chief legal correspondent. I'm sure he's busy but I wish he had been there.

Monks is really hurting the situation at this point. I was hoping someone would convince him to drop out but apparently not.

I doubt he is dumb enough to think he has enough support to sneak into that elective office. I really don't know what his motivation is, but I doubt even he thinks he can actually be elected.

He keeps implying somebody is trying to convince him to drop out. It started basically from day one, because he implied people asked him to drop out before he even signed up as a write in candidate. Well, it ain't working...

Too late. Someone already put a horse's ass in place of his head.
