NBC ripped up its fall schedule shortly after unveiling it to advertisers last spring to protect the network's hefty investment in Aaron Sorkin's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."
It looks as though the fourth-place network has been ripped off to the tune of $3 million an episode.
The most-hyped show of the new TV season has become the biggest disappointment. "Studio 60" is a bust.
The drama about backstage intrigue at a "Saturday Night Live"-esque show from "The West Wing" auteur Sorkin that NBC outbid its rivals to land, is dying like one of those mirthless "SNL" sketches shoe-horned in just before the closing credits.
It's not entirely clear why, though viewers historically have not swarmed to inside showbiz dramas. It's also possible they've found Sorkin's tale of how a big-shot heroic writer deigned to return to network TV a tad smug. The allegedly brilliant work his fictional alter ego churns out seems very ordinary indeed.

I like Jericho, but I cant see how it could ever go longer than 1-2 seasons
I didn't know I had to be shameful about watching Studio 60. I have enjoyed the dialogue very much.
I too am thinking that because the nicest, smartest person on the show is the maligned Christian, that they may actually be poking at the ANTI-Christianity of Hollywood rather than being anti-Christian. And it is definitely over the top that the writer would break up with her because she went on the 700 club, even though he obviously loves her. So this may be cathartic for Hollywood to get over their sick persecution of Christians.
One thing I do enjoy, also, is that I don't get even a whiff of Matthew Perry's insecure, sarcastic "Friends" character. Watching him on this show, I don't even remember he used to be another character. That says something for a TV actor.
Thanks. As you could guess, I haven't seen either one. I'm waiting for baseball season to end so I can start watching "House" again.
I can only congratulate them on their great choice of uhmnnn outfits then! When she has her heel on that guys face was hilarious... I love a woman that is feminine yet can kick some serious tail.
These shows are presented to the studios quite often if they can even get in the door. It is not a lack of people brainstorming these shows it is like the devil is in charge at the studios etc.
Even in the face of evidence that financially this is a better option then the disgusting, dumb ass fare they dish out they won't put it in the line up. Part of it is they throw everything piece of trash at the TV which may attract a certain young make demographic. Part is just their DA ignorance and inability to run a good business as shown in quoted profits above.
Just you wait though as I have said in earlier emails, it may take some time, but plans are underway for a revolution (not a Marxist one mind you) a good family values one with a respect shown toward Christians and also inspiring programming. The people will vote then just like they do with this other programming whether that is something that they want. God is at work in the ugly little town.
LOL!
I LOVE HEROES! It's the only show I TiVo...
CW show becomes second corpse of the new season.
The CW has pulled the plug on the action drama series, which had struggled in the ratings since its premiere four weeks ago. The show is the second cancellation of the new season--the first being CBS's Smith--and one of the two new shows CW had brought to the air (the other being Girlfriends spin-off The Game).
Did you hear "Shark" (James Woods) rip liberals on his last show? I was cheering!
It was a throwaway line (you know how fast Jimmy talks) as he was getting onto an elevator, and he was mumbling "Yeah, yeah, a liberal until someone blocks his ocean view..." or something to that effect.
TiVoed it [that way I can fast forward thru the icky parts ;-] and haven't gotten back to it, but will before Monday.
To begin with, for the reason you stated, it has been done a million times also for the reason you mentioned. Second as you said, it absolutely lacks imagination, richness, and a variety of experience. It is enriching as a writer to write about other professions as either in my case (you've held many others :-), or you get to study and learn about new ones. A lot of people are lazy and don't like to learn in their jobs.
My wife calls it the fastest hour of the week. She always yells "Noooooooooooo" when it's over.
You beat me to quoting the Woods line.
The CW has decided to run Veronica Mars for on more season to see what happens. It's one of our favorites. I hate to say I got all caught up in a show about a high school girl who is now in college, but it's really well done and always has an interesting mystery going on.
I did a quick search and found that it has only recently been adopted for German TV (2005). In addition to the Latin market, Betty la fea has been adopted for/or dubbed "in Malaysia, the Philippines, Hungary, Israel, the Czech Republic, and China" India also has a version.

NBC = Television for the inner f*g h*g
(since only women watch network TV these days)
Ah yes, House! Though the disease-of-the-week can be a bit of a stretch, the dialog is very good and edgy (I'm waiting for Foreman to smack House one).
I find I only have the brain capacity for so many ensemble shows. I know the people on Law and Order and CSI. It was hard to get into Lost and some of these other new shows. Sadly, if I want detective drama, there is plenty of the real life kind on the cable shows like Cold Case Files and The First 48.
I was talking about real life. And I believe she cheated on Stamos with that new guy.
Can Peter even fly or just Nathan...and is Nathan totally evil? or am I just prejudiced because he is married to Natalie Maines in real life. Lol!
Now, these questions may already be answered since I haven't yet watched the last 45 minutes or so of Monday's episode.
Lost, I am TOTALLY addicted to, LOVE it!
I love, The Unit.
Really liked the 1st episode of The Nine, the 2nd episode not so much.
