NBC's `Studio' fails to reveal dramatic ratings
Chicago Tribune ^ | October 18, 2006 | Phil Rosenthal

NBC ripped up its fall schedule shortly after unveiling it to advertisers last spring to protect the network's hefty investment in Aaron Sorkin's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."

It looks as though the fourth-place network has been ripped off to the tune of $3 million an episode.

The most-hyped show of the new TV season has become the biggest disappointment. "Studio 60" is a bust.

The drama about backstage intrigue at a "Saturday Night Live"-esque show from "The West Wing" auteur Sorkin that NBC outbid its rivals to land, is dying like one of those mirthless "SNL" sketches shoe-horned in just before the closing credits.

It's not entirely clear why, though viewers historically have not swarmed to inside showbiz dramas. It's also possible they've found Sorkin's tale of how a big-shot heroic writer deigned to return to network TV a tad smug. The allegedly brilliant work his fictional alter ego churns out seems very ordinary indeed.

He's pleasant and he has the sympathy factor with his wife leaving him for that other guy, who isn't HALF as sexy as Stamos!

I've been keeping quiet on this thread about "60." I quite enjoy the show. Steven Weber is the best.

And on Monday's show I loved that Jordan turned down the reality show because it was trash and was about breaking couples up, a la Temptation Island. I hate those shows.

This is the one with alec baldwin in it, isn't it?

No, he's in 30 Rock, the sitcom with the similar premise. It has its second airing tonight.

Studio 60 = one hour drama

30 Rock = half hour comedy

Yahh, Matthew Perry and Amanda Peet. There is some high acting chops.

How soon till Peet shows her breasts to try to raise ratings. Its the only talent she has.

The original I thought was a German TV Show that has been very successful over there... Anyone have any definate answer on who REALLY was first?

I find myself watching a LOT more TV then ever before with a LOT of great shows out right now:

Battlestar Galactica
Heroes
Jericho
The Unit
Rescue Me
Spooks (MI-5 in the U.S.) - THIS SHOW ROCKS!
24 (not as good as spooks but still)
Extreme Makeover
Stargate Atlantis
Bones
Dexter
Lost and Prision Break (even though I still have to catch up with their spring/this fall seasons)

LOVED that opening from this week's show with Claire lying on the autopsy table after she woke up... "Oh,s$%t!"

Oh, Gawd...I HATED that, seriously, gave me a bad stomach ache...and I was only looking at it between my fingers, waiting for it to be over. ;^(

"Law and ORder mothership "

The original few years L&O was a great show. Unfortunately it turned into a left wing liberal spewfest years ago.

I usually watch a bunch of shows at the beginning of the season, but quickly make cuts.

Vanished: watched one episode. Looked too weird and daVinci Code-esque (in the ancient conspiracy thing).

The Nine: Made it through the first 1.5 episodes. Too many things kept from the viewers, and I have nothing invested in the characters.

Kidnapped: Was quickly loosing patience, then they switched the time, so now I've dropped it.

Shark: Good show, James Woods is a great actor. And his line last week: "He's a liberal until someone blocks his ocean view" when speaking about some celebrity.

Men in Trees: my wife watches that lame-brained show with Ex-lesbo Anne Heche. I ignore it.

Shows that I watch on a regular basis:

Amazing Race
Prison Break
Lost
House
Shark

I also catch maybe 1-2 combined episodes of CSI and Law and Order. And when 24 is back, I'll watch it. But I try to keep my TV watching down to an hour a night, and it's almost always via DVR.

Ooh, I don't know the background to the character. Good to know.

So since I don't know all that, have they come out and said that he is illiterate? Or is it just at the major hinting stage?

Wait, wait, wait - are you talking about the character or Stamos in real life? Because I think Rebecca Romijn met her now fiance after she broke up with Stamos.

Aw, sorry! But I thought it was awesome! The show has had some great cliffhangers so far from week-to-week. What do you think Niki's real power is? Is she a split personality? That really doesn't fit the "power" definition, IMHO.

Other shows I like...

How I Met Your Mother
Veronica Mars
Lost
The Nine
Smallville
Supernatural
Close To Home

Oh HECK yeah! Apparently part of the writers' strategy is to put Ali Larter in the smallest outfits possible.
