NBC ripped up its fall schedule shortly after unveiling it to advertisers last spring to protect the network's hefty investment in Aaron Sorkin's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."
It looks as though the fourth-place network has been ripped off to the tune of $3 million an episode.
The most-hyped show of the new TV season has become the biggest disappointment. "Studio 60" is a bust.
The drama about backstage intrigue at a "Saturday Night Live"-esque show from "The West Wing" auteur Sorkin that NBC outbid its rivals to land, is dying like one of those mirthless "SNL" sketches shoe-horned in just before the closing credits.
It's not entirely clear why, though viewers historically have not swarmed to inside showbiz dramas. It's also possible they've found Sorkin's tale of how a big-shot heroic writer deigned to return to network TV a tad smug. The allegedly brilliant work his fictional alter ego churns out seems very ordinary indeed.

It took me a while to thread into the new version of BG but I'm hooked on it now!
The author wrote a very precise line: "It's not entirely clear why, though viewers historically have not swarmed to inside showbiz dramas."
"Dramas" haven't worked, but comedies have done great: Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore come to mind immediately, a little stretching gives us the Larry Sanders Show, and possibly even WKRP In Cincinatti would qualify.
No.
My husband got very mad at BSG because they had a suicide bomber on the season premier.
I still like it, and I hope they get back onto finding earth.
It's a lot more entertaining than many shows on TV.
I think for the same reason some people post on threads that don't interest them declaring their undying disinterest.
SD
For some reason I am positively giddy this show is not doing well. It represents everything about Hollywood I hate.
Really? I haven't watched ER in years, but I think bringing John Stamos on seems to have worked.
I'm Jonesin for The Shield....What will Vic do when he learns who killed Lem????? BEST SHOW ...EVER
I agree "Heroes" is a show with more creativity than one can usually find on NBC.
So far the writers have not spent all their time Bush- bashing or trying get Hillary elected Presdient.
But since the season is still young, I hope this apolitical trend continues.
What about Cold Case. I love that show. It could be a family show - teens anyway. I would imagine that some stories might not be appropriate, but I think it has some good stuff. I love 24, Law and Orders, CSI's, Without a Trace and that is about it. I think that most of those would be on the Republican side of politics. lol. Well some Law and Orders might be questionable.
Stopped watching ER several years back when it seemed the entire hospital was crewed by lesbians.....
Extreme Makeover Home Edition is definitely a family show and is good for the most part....very sappy though.
Wifeswap is just a hoot!!! That show is just insane sometimes. I ask my wife all the time if she wants to switch with another wife. She always looks at me like I am insane.
Is it really? I hadn't heard that. Good, it was a terrible show.
What about "The Class"? That one needs to go.
....good one......
There's two of us. ;^)
This is the one with alec baldwin in it, isn't it? Funny they didn't mention that as a factor in their failure.
Ohhhhh yeah! Final season, too, I read.
SMUG is the [erfect word for this show.
Smug alert!
