On those other two points, I'd like to know the answer, too. I'm not sure if bruising on the "tips of the temporal lobes" (whatever that really means) is somehow significant as an indicator of something.

The only thing I know about blood after death is what you mentioned, that in livor mortis blanching behavior changes with time, which suggests a change in the blood. That's really all I know about that.

The problem for lay people, of course, is that a pathologist will note things that may be indicative of something but b/c he knows what he's doing he doesn't explain that in the autopsy. It's up to the reader to understand all that...

have you seen the handwriting in Patsy's exemplar, compared to the ransom note? Stevie Wonder could see it matches.

Here's a PDF document that discusses rigor mortis, postmortem lividity, and some other things to do with changes in the body after death. Some good info in there that I thought you might like.

I keep reading that there was no evidence of an intruder. Perhaps there was, but since the Boulder police had already decided the Ramsey's were guilty they never bothered to secure the scene and look for it. They didn't see the point.

According to this time line her Dr examined her on 8-27-96. At that time a vagina exam WAS given.

I asked earlier if that was normal to give such an exam to a six-year-old girl and didn't get an answer although one poster speculated it might have had to do with JBR's bedwetting problem.

Too bad that Lou Smit, or a Lou Smit type of detective, didn't work for the Boulder police at that time.

The answer is yes, but a vaginal exam for a little girl is an external visual, not the same as an adult women would receive.

And the mother is present. My pediatrician had the girls sit on my lap and my hands are the "stirrups".

Bladder infections caused by excessive use of bubble bath is extremely common at this age. Especially since they are just beginning to bathe themselves (and mine would sneak extra bubble stuff). Couple of bladder infections later and they learned why mommy limits the bubbles. I have 3 girls and every last one of them went through this phase.

Great link! thanks.

Here's a quote that expounds on the coroner's comment about gyri and sulci which again, indicates brain swelling:

"Brain swelling (cerebral oedema) is a common and frequently fatal complication of head injury which may develop within minutes or hours of injury. Swelling may accompany diffuse axonal injury or a space-occupying lesion such as an intracranial haematoma. In children brain swelling may be the only identifiable feature of head injury. A swollen brain is heavy, with visible enlargement of the surface convolutions (gyri) at the expense of obliteration of the the intervening gaps (sulci) and compression of the fluid filled cavities (ventricles) deep within the brain. Emergency neurosurgical procedures frequently attempted include drainage of an ICH or removal of severely damaged brain tissue in an attempt to reduce intracranial pressure. Brain swelling is frequently the fatal complication even after such measures."

Had a child who was a bed wetter. A vaginal exam IS common as bed wetting can be a symptom of yeast infection or sexual abuse. Either confirmed or denied by the exam.

"Linda Arndt knew as soon as John brought JonBenet's body upstairs that the Ramsey's were guilty."

Why should they secure the crime scene, hire a profiler, and investigate other possibilities with any vigilance. The minute this case went from kidnapping to murder they knew who was guilty. Why, because of the way JR was holding JonBenet. Doesn't that say it all?

I don't have daughters but my sisters do and one has had a few problems taking bubble baths so she doesn't get them anymore. In fact I can't take bubble baths at all due to the same issues little girls have.

Both articles provide interesting tidbits, IMO...what I can't decide is whether or not this is the beginning of an effort to favorably spin a forgone conclusion that won't exactly wash.
After all the reading I have done on this case this weekend, my tinfoil hat is probably on too tight.

Ironic, isn't it.

Linda Arndt thought immediately that John Ramsey must have done it. I guess her "gut" told her that.

But for years, the villain in this piece has not been John Ramsey, per se`, but Patsy.

Oh I know, some definitely imply a broad family conspiracy to cover up, but MOST I've seen make Burke the Perp with Patsy as cover, or Patsy as both perp and cover. The most I've seen implied on John is that he would have assisted in covering for Burke and / or Patsy.

But....but....Linda Arndt just KNEW John was guilty of the deed when she saw him bring JonBenet's body up from the basement. I guess she assumed that must mean that John knew she was down there dead, all the time. But it wasn't a coverup she stated her "gut" told her he did...rather, she felt he actually was the perpetrator.

I think she thought Patsy wrote the note to cover for John, whom she must have thought was an abuser of his own child and ended up killing her.

Funny, you just don't hear much along those lines anymore.

Chalk another one up for the Boulder police department.

And again I say, too bad Lou Smit wasn't on scene instead of Linda Arndt.

If John Karr hadn't blurted out "accident" and then in the next breath, "that's second degree, not first", I might look at the entire thing differently.

Don't forget, Karr didn't call the cops on himself and say "come get me". They nabbed him. He's still pretty shocked and KNOWS what the DNA will say. THAT'S WHY HE SCREAMED "ACCIDENT".

I remember Scott Peterson's face and Scott's extraordinary elaborate plan. And it was Christmas, too.

We think these "bad people" do these things sporadically. They do not. They're complicated planners.

That's why I believe Karr was IN THE HOUSE before he entered with the intent to kill. Would you miss a pen and/or pad for a couple of days?
