really? but your read it. anyone can post a boring title.
"military restricts drinking" "smokers quite military early" who would read that?
i am watching my military become "kinder and gentler" and less and less efficient. that makes me angry.
much of my family still serve. both my sons serve. if they are going to dedicate their lives to the military, i want them to be part of a killing machine, not a social club run by people who have never seen dirt up close.

"it is a recognized style.
Yep. I recognize it for exactly what it is."
Ease up a bit. Back in bad old days of the BBS', we paid by the character. Times change and ol rider here should try catching up, but his point is clear, the military is getting more and more feminized.
Flew with a few mustangs who would be in the brig today.
Flew with a CO who stood on the flight line, lit his smoke, gave us the signal to huff the bird before he even got ready to climb up in.
But like I say, times change.

have been writing these since the first bbs's came out. have never used caps and never will. it is a recognized style. our early ways gave birth to the internet that you now enjoy.
Then don't bother posting. No one wants to wade through a four hundred word sentence. You could never get a job in the business world.
Thanks for coming.
Bye.

Your keyboard has two keys labeled "Shift". Using them gets you capital letters. You're not the only person around here that's been using computers for the last Geological Age. (Do you know what a PDP-11 is? Have you ever used one? Do you know what an acoustic coupler is? Can you give a one sentence explanation why it would be
very difficult to use one today?) Some of us learned to use our shift keys 'way back in the dim and distant prehistoric era of UNIVAC. We haven't forgotten.
Just something to think about.

Apparently you have a problem with authority.
You do not recognize the rules of grammar nor the rules of the military. The whole point of rules of grammar are so that the person you are writing to (your audience) understands what you are writing. It is not about YOU, it is about the person to whom you are writing.
The military is not about a single person but rather the unit or "machine." God help us all if the military were full of babies like you demanding their right to destroy their health. The fitter the soldier the better the military and the better the military the safer the world.

Great post rider, keep up the good work. I'm actually less intelligent after reading your thread.

Have you ever head of capitalizing the first word in every sentence?
It's a radical new trend sweeping the country.

I see. That's funny. I ran my first bulletin board in 1983. I had a shift key on my computer then, and I used it regularly.
I don't really mind if you ignore proper English capitalization. I was just pointing out that people don't take articles as seriously if they're not properly spelled, punctuated, and capitalized. It's your choice.

Just as long as you remember that capitalization is the difference between:
"I helped my uncle Jack off a horse."
and
"i helped my uncle jack off a horse."
;)

History tells us that many times there were near-mutinies and mutinies because troops/sailors didn't receive their rations of alcohol in time.

Yes, how did we ever defeat the Nazis and Imperial Japan with Lucky Strikes in the C-rats?
Maybe with some more smoking and drinking the PC war directors in DC will unleash our military to win WWIII.
