Oliver Stone's 'World Trade Center: A Masterpiece
The National Ledger ^ | 7-21-06 | L. Brent Bozell III

"You kept me alive!"

I wasn't skeptical when I was invited to a private screening of Oliver Stone's upcoming "World Trade Center" movie. I was downright cynical. As a conservative I've long considered so much of his work the bane of my existence. From "Platoon" to "Salvador" to "Born on the Fourth of July" to "JFK," and let's not forget last year's ghastly "Alexander," Stone has delivered one left-wing screed after another, specifically intended, I'm convinced, to bring my blood to the boiling point. When I learned a few months ago that he was working on a project about 9/11, I fully expected another tiresome, loathsome Bush-lied-thousands-died production designed to titillate the Michael Moore left-wing fringe.

Not your fault. Maybe I need to upgrade. They were just distracting me from trying to read the article and I needed to rant!

If he managed to keep his own politics out of it and just told the story, maybe it's worth seeing.

Democrats write letters to the editor for my local newspaper every single day trashing Bush and the war. I'd like them to see this movie.

Most of my family votes Democrat, they backed the president on Afghanistan, but not on much of anything else. I don't think that this movie would change their minds.

This movie is getting nothing but raves from the "VRWC", amazing. It looks GREAT from the TV ads. Everyone is saying that fellow Pena is great. Nicholas Cage is always good, whether you can buy him in the role or not. I had real problems with him as the love interest in Moonstruck.

File under: it's a wiggly world.

Thanks for posting this!

It stands to reason that this film will not be getting good reviews from the liberal press.

Good point,if it's slammed by Frank Rich,EJ Dionne and Ebert I'll know it's worth seeing.

I guess there's hope for anyone if Oliver Stone finally makes a realistic, honest movie without fat-fingered left-wing proganda all over it.

Thanks for posting this. United 93 was powerful; maybe this movie will help people remember why we are fighting the enemy.

The distance of time has weakened our memory of magnificent acts of heroism by ordinary men caught up in an extraordinary event. The trailer rekindled my memories of of that day and I was overwelmed by the emotion.

If Stone has made a uncynical film that treats the sacrifice of those men with utmost respect and dignity--and it appears that he has--this could take its place as one of the great films of all time. No more powerful and moving script could be written than the one that was written in the sweat and blood of the men who responded without pause or flinching and stepped into the devastation of that terrible day and used their own bodies to stem the tide of evil.

My sense of it is, Bush-loathing liberals will be silenced by the film. They will have no answer but their shame.

BTTT.....Thank you for a most eloquent post that perfectly expresses what we all witnessed on 9-11.....

I did more than 'choke up'.....

I felt in my gut just like I did on 9-11 and I cried and cried for all those innocents in the Towers and the brave who tried to save them.......

But me? I was "there".

#####

Then you carry your own "movie" with you. But consider how MSM has tried to airbrush any memory of the Trade Towers from view of everyone else. Oliver Stone is not Mel Gibson, to be disregarded as an "ultra-right-winger", by the movie community or public. His leftist street cred is solid. So people will see this movie with an "open" mind, and will be reminded of what Americans are like when necessity calls.

There is another review today of this movie by Cal Thomas. He says go see it (not you, I agree there is no need for you to see it), let Oliver Stone make lots of money, and maybe he will make more proAmerican movies.

Brent Bozell is the gold standard for media measurement. Here is his final paragraph:

"World Trade Center" pleads with us to remember that moment and to keep it alive. It is not appropriate for the very young, of course. It is appropriate, indeed necessary, for everyone else, just as it is appropriate, and necessary, for Stone's critics now to salute him, and thank him for the gift he's given his country.

L. Brent Bozell III is the president of the Media Research Center.

If he is able to make it something true to what happen without his leftist politics in it, then it would probably be a great film. I don't want anyone to EVER forget this. I remember as a kid in school we had forced viewings of The Grapes of Wrath, The Sound of Music, etc, etc. Perhaps this could be something similar so that future generations never forget the evil we are up against.
I have little doubt that at some point in the not too distant future a nuclear
bomb will be smuggled in to some harbor in America and 9/11 will seem
like kids play. Then the WOT will be on without kid gloves and we will have
a real WW III. They hate everything we stand for and will nuke us when they have that ability. Then the old joke will be: A Conservative is a Liberal who has been nuked.

And you know this because....?

Stone is their boy...and Gyllenhaal is one of them too....

I will not be seeing this one, regardless of what Bozell or Thomas say.

Stone & Gyllenhaal have both made anti-American statements and have not had a change of heart.

I will not add to their coffers for their (probably) money making movie...

...that's their bottom line....money.

I can't imagine 'hating' a nation or President to the extreme these two have.... and yet portraying patriotic caring folks on screen, or directing thus.

But I guess that's why they get paid the big bucks....

....but not with my money.

Agreed. I wouldn't watch an Oliver Stone movie if it were showing free on tv.

Personally I'm kind of torn.

I respect Brent Bozell.

I despise most of "Vile Hollywood".

I will probably see it based on Bozell's recommendation alone. I just hate the idea of giving money to the Hollywood piglets.

I think the reason why I'm torn about paying to see this movie (regardless of how well and good it was made), is because I know that Oliver Stone will just use the money to make more vile crap.

I think we've all seen the formulation before. An actor will clearly go out of their way to offend the majority of the American people. Not something accidental, but something vicious with aforethought. An example that comes to my mind is that little worm Johnny Depp. He made a real jerk remark about how he was disgusted with America and it's patriotism sometime after the 9/11 attacks. There was outrage at the time of course. So what did the little worm do? Instead of apologizing, he starred in some children's films. The stars always know that the can worm their way back into popularity by doing kids movies. Kids usually don't follow politics, and parents rarely drag politics into the lives of there kids. The kids will beg the parents to take them to the movie starring a jerk like Depp, and Depp will continue to get paid. Eventually, people will forget the outrage because the media will not remind the public of the offense, and the actor still survives until the next time.

I have an extremely difficult time with the idea of adding money to the coffers of vile people. Personally I think anyone associated with that terrible movie "Natural Born Killers" should be ashamed of themselves. Oliver Stone especially.

I honestly don't know if I'm going to see the movie or not.
