Danica, please stay out of NASCAR
The Birmingham News ^ | July 15, 2006 | Mike Bolton

Indy star Danica Patrick has hinted lately that she might be willing to give NASCAR a try. Although I believe the hints are nothing more than her gaining a little leverage as her contract with Letterman/Rahal expires at season's end, I'm still going to offer her a little advice.

Stay where you are, Danica. The Indy Racing League needs you.

After seeing that picture, it disgusts me that her father is her agent. Yuck.

Nascar certainly isn't dying.-
Tv ratings are down some this year (what isn't?) but sponsorship is still solid.
Danica is desperately trying to improve her salary negotiating position - there are only about 10 paying seats in IRL right now and most of them are already locked for 07 - her contract expires at end of 06 - Dad's using Nascar as leverage - although from what I've seen he's not the brightest bulb in the string of lights.
IMHO
1) she'll stay in Indycars
2) in Nas she would struggle to find the top 30
(FWIW she has a neat advantage in Indycars, 50# less body weight than most guys - they don't normalize for driver weight like Nas, and at 5 feet tall the car has more horsepower because her helmet doesn't block the engine airbox as much. Despite this she hasn't won a race yet.)

JPM won Indy for Ganassi, he never drove for Penske.
He has a major attitude also.
He'll get punted in Nascar like a football inflated to 100 psi.
Chip better schedule HEAVY overtime at the fab shop

JMHO

You're right about him winning for Ganassi at Indy, my bad.

Do you think the fact that he actually knows a few of the Cup guys, like Gordon, might make him realize that he's going to have to have an attitude adjustment to survive? Because as you said, his peers will police an attitude problem. Everyone always said that Scott Pruett got punted all the time because he was an Indy car interloper, but my understanding is that the punting had to do more with his attitude, not his origins.

All I needed to know about Jeff Gordon so to make me dislike him --

1. He is a liberal Democrat from California, who opposes the President.

2. He drives for a car owner that gave so much money to Bill Clinton he got a pardon for a felony.

'Nuff Said.

the only campaign contributions I could find that Jeff Gordon made were to Kevin Triplett, a former Nascar official, who ran as a Republican for Congress in Virginia

The only reaons she (her handlers?)) did this is because JPM made his annoncement.

They effectively destroyed his entrance...not surprising...she's a media WHORE.

She is tiring...not a good driver, IMO, as well as her entourage being tin-eared.

She's ready made for F1...

Like Wie, she will one day pull out of a contest because she's "tired" or not "feeling well" and us men will be forced by CNN and SI and ESPN to feel sorry for her.

What a frickin crock.

PC infects motor sport, of course, unti. someone gets killed...go JPM, a man's man in a man's sport.

Danica's accomplishments???

Any?

Looks like Danica could become the Anna Kournikova of racing: No wins, but lots of endorsements.

I said "car owner." The car owner's name is Rick Hendrick. Go here -- http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1590102/posts?page=84#84

I gotta say it, next to Danica, Ann Coulter is a skank. I do not get the attraction (physical) to Ann. I've seen 2x4s with more curves.

I know all about Hendrick
he was a principal in the Honda bribe scandals where they paid Honda to get all the new cars and starve competing dealers
that's why he needed the felony pardon from WJC

but back to Jeff Gordon.........

Sorry for such a late reply...while I agree that the selling of Wie has put her into professional (and amateur) situations that would lead us to think she's been given too much to chew, it's absolutely impossible for you, me, Butch Harmon, or Gladys Kravitz to determine the effects on Wie's development.

Let kids be kids? Maybe. But maybe that's balderdash. Sportswriters (those enlightened wretches), believe that Wie should "learn how to win". That's crap, in my opinion. They use Woods as the reason for such a philosophy, when it is clear Woods is the anomoly when considering the proper preparation of young athletes.

Like it or not, successful athletes can, and have, been fashioned through parental terror, deprivation of normal childhood experience, and a focus on repetitive training leadng to optimal "on field" performance.

Michelle Wie is an extraordinary golfer who has already reaped a fortune; no disservice has been done to her. She will either be a rich, celebrated champion; or a rich, non-celebrated professional athlete.

You state she has the "skill set to be a dominant female golfer." Where have you been? She already is....

1. He is a liberal Democrat from California, who opposes the President.

Wrong. Jeff Gordon is largely apolitical, but is a registered Republican who does not oppose the President. When the Vice President was at Daytona a few weeks ago, Jeff was front and center next to the VP on the stage. Nemecheck and Shraeder were the other drivers immediately around the VP, because they drive cars sponsored by the military.

He drives for a car owner that gave so much money to Bill Clinton he got a pardon for a felony.

I don't know who Rick Hendrick makes political contributions to, if he makes them at all. I do know that one does not need to contribute money to a president's campaign in order to receive a presidential pardon. Most people who receive presidential pardons are not wealthy campaign contributors.

I also know that Rick Hendrick and Jeff Gordon are different people, just as you and your boss are different people. Additionally, not only do nearly all adult Americans work and play with people whose politics do not agree with their own, but millions live with family members who have different political views. It's called life, and being a human being. Get over it. There IS more to life than politics.

Oh, and by the way, Jeff may have been born in Californa and spent his young childhood here (yep, I'm from California, too -- lots of conservatives here), but his family moved him to Indiana when he was about 11 or 12 and, as far as I know, Jeff has never lived in California since. So stuff your anti-California prejudices where the sun don't shine.

Danica has some masculine traits and that expression on her face doesn't help. I think it's fair to comment because she's making a living with her looks.
