The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh, but a vacuum cleaner is not a nice present unless it is specifically requested. Even if you really need a vacuum... I know someone who was given a new screen door as a birthday present once from her husband. She wasn't too pleased.

For future reference on presents, in case my future husband (impossibly) is lurking:

Kitchen appliances and utensils and gadgets and such: good.
Cleaning gadgets and appliances that aren't specifically asked for: baaad.

Hey, it ain't impossible! That he's posting, pretty unlikely, but we are being watched you know...

Attention lurkers, there's an excellent hobbit-lass who is possibly interested in a man of the best quality... submit your applications to RosieCotton in person... also take note that she does not want cleaning gadgets as presents...

Hmm, my mom and I were going to get my brother a vaccuum for his birthday - which is next Monday.

I swear I am not making this up.

I'm waiting to hear from Jr. He's been at work today. His car won't start. ~Of course~ it's in the parking lot at King's Dominion.

Triple A tow truck driver is there. I'm waiting to see if they can get it started or if I'll have to meet him at the garage.

I'd promised myself I'd get to bed early.

~sigh~

Good luck with Jr.'s car. Paul just got his out of the shop last week; they'd had it for two weeks and couldn't figure out what was wrong because it kept going dead and wouldn't start. He's had it for four days, and it happened again today. Unfortunately, the shop is closed until Monday. At least he can use my van to go back and forth to his Bar Exam classes! He's gonna drive me to the airport, YIKES in 3 hours!

I'll see y'all sometime late on Monday.

How did that work out? Oh dear...

Happy Friday, all. That was a less than terribly painful week.

Good morning, everybody!

One of two main possibilities is likely to happen today:

(1) I will finish work at a reasonable hour, come home, clean up 'n' change, and get back on the road to be with my sweetie, or
(2) I will get some good overtime, come home, and go over there in the morning.

Sometime Saturday morning I will pick her up at her house and take her up to Frankenmuth, a decent half-way point between D-town and Mom's town, to meet Mom. We plan to meet at noon at a prominent local landmark.

After what I expect will be a nice lunch and pleasant afternoon, there are again two main possibilities:

(1) I will take my sweetie back to her town and stay through Sunday afternoon, or
(2) I will bring her here to stay with me (overnight with our mutual friends) through Sunday afternoon, when she will hitch a ride with other mutual friends back to her home.

Next weekend is difficult to foresee at this time...

A vacuum cleaner's a great present if you need one. I got one as a present... from my dad once.

My dad once got my mom an anchor and fifty feet of anchor chain for the boat... for her birthday :)

Well, did you have to go?

Only as far as the garage to pick him up...and pay the tow truck driver. They tried to jump it, but the engine wouldn't turn over. Prayers up that it's something simple (and not too spendy).

Prayers for a safe trip Suzi, we're thinking about you and your family.

Prayers for your weekend too XGI.

Luke is in NC. Jr. leaves for Brazil tonight. Wife goes to FL on Sunday. It'll be just me and Nana.

She can stay as long as she remembers to close the bathroom door. I don't ~care~ if she thought no one else was home, or upstairs. She's been told there are people in nursing homes that will ~help~ you close the bathroom door...

I'm just sayin is all.
