The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I don't think netting is going to get it. If it's not metal, sthe squirrels will just chew through it.

I put out bloodmeal all over theraisedbed.

Okie dokes. Garden pics ... finally.

An overview as of this afternoon. Haven't been able to mow lately due to the rain, so please pardon the grass.

This is the new bed. Just got the trellis up yesterday. It has squashes and melons and ind. 'maters.

This is the front of the new bed. I love all the different leaves.

What may be my new favorite flower. This is called stock.

A shot of the big beds. The peas are toasty, but I'm leaving them as a sacrifice to the Japanese beetles. They like to perch high and they're easy pickins that way.

One of my Dad's favorites: zinnia

The Mexican bed is currently the purtiest. It's got Mexican zinnia's, Anaheim peppers, poblano peppers, jalepeno peppers, paste tomater's for salsa, a tomatillo, epazote, and cilantro, plus a bunch of flowers and lettuce filling in the spaces.

My greatest accomplishment this year is getting cleome to sprout and grow. Hurray! Third years' the charm, I guess.

Yes, I am growing veggies. It's just that beans aren't all that photogenic and I picked the peppers that were ready to go... anyway. I'm waiting for the cukes to get their acts together. They're being vey slow this year. I'll take a pic of the zucchnini when I bring it in...

Great garden pics Lil'. I'm still hopin' for real gardening when I get some trees down and have direct sunlight.

That said, one more pic. I forgot to post a picture of my birthday grill...

Love the Mexican bed!

I'm not sure if I'll get peppers or not. They still don't have any flowers. :-( I just have Anaheim and one that was labeled "Tabasco" - something red, I'd guess. But it's not exactly thriving.

I have cilantro and tomatoes, too...was hoping to have *most* of what I needed for a fresh salsa of some sort (onions would have to be bought'n), but I dunno how it's gonna go.

Thanks for the prayers folks. It was strange, and I didn't even remember it until just before I called to talk to my younger sister to check on arrangements, but I dreamed about George this morning. I had been up VEY late with a stomach ache, and was still sleeping around 11:30, and you know how you have those dreams just as you are coming awake? I dreamed that George called me and said "Mama is ok.". I was confused and couldn't figure out why he'd say that because she died two years ago. Then I woke up, and realized I was dreaming, and didn't think any more about it until they called me with the news. My sister told me that he died just about then, so he must have been letting me know that he knew for sure that Mama was ok cause he was with her. That gives us some peace.

Wow, Lil, your garden is gorgeous!! That Stock is pretty. Does it grow up on stalks like gladiolus?

Great Garden Pics, everything looks super. Cleome is very aggresive around here, we really need to keep a close eye on it or it'll take over.

Cool birthday gift!! We're planning to leave our grill with Paul, for his back porch. We won't need one for a bit, and we can always find one down South! Lowe's might even have some nice ones on sale in October, if there are any left!

"Mama is ok.".

That's really quite remarkable, SuziQ. It's priceless to be given those comforts like your dream. If she's OK, he's OK too, ~and~ had time to visit too :~) I really longed for something like that when my mom passed.

You saw an AWACS? That is just SO cool! I'll bet it and the F-16's were flying back to their base from a 4th of July air show somewhere near you.

How old was he? Was he apparently healthy before the stones?

I sometimes wonder, if it's easier to grieve a long illness or a sudden death... both are hard. I'm sure sorry for your family.

He was only 67, and I don't think he'd had any heart trouble, so my younger sister convinced my sister-in-law to allow an autopsy. Our Dad died suddenly, at the age of 64, and my Mama wouldn't let them do an autopsy, so we never really knew what happened, because he was alone at our Fishing Camp at the time. We have three other brothers, and George has four sons, so it would be good for all of them to know if there are any congenital conditions for which they could be prepared.
