The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

But if I buy the TE, seems like to me it's mine to sell as I see fit!

You can try to list it. If it goes through, then you should be OK. It's only what I'd read on the message board. Folks were really steamed that they'd not be able to buy or sell them anymore, but maybe they were jumping the gun, I don't know.

I found something on my Homesat egroup. It has 1500 members...I never post on it, but occasionally run searches for info. Is this what you heard?

It was a forwarded message...and it didn't make sense to me because it said that the book sales were being pulled. Now I've been following BJ textbook sales for a long time, at least a couple of months and the ones I've watched have never been pulled! I just didn't bid on them because you have to wait to see which edition you're going to need for the next year and BJ just released that a week or so ago.

To me, it sounded like sour grapes from someone, especially since the email promoted another website. Plus, it's "high drama"...another clue that it might not be totally accurate. I just feel like they're trying to manipulate me and I'm not going to feed in to their maladaptive behavior. :-)

Dear Homeschool Community,

We don't really know why, but eBay has turned against anyone selling textbooks on eBay. We have to act now if we hope to have a dependable place to buy books in the future. eBay has not posted any notice publically concerning this. Sellers whose auctions are shut down only receive notice after the fact and are given a link to a totally ridiculous excuse about children buying teacher guides for the purpose of cheating, and that selling teacher's manuals on eBay is "doing more harm than good". Can you believe it?

I know some of us are managing to get the books we want on eBay right now, but the group of book sellers who have been shut down is growing daily. They are looking at several existing auction sites to consider, but 2 have been started in response to this crisis. One in particular is called "DELETED". This lady is spending thousands to set up this site and do whatever promotion will help draw people to the site, but if any of you who have online efforts, you know success is far from guaranteed and you may NEVER get discovered. There is another new site I have not yet checked out, but will do so soon.

One reason so many good venues fail is that homeschoolers have a hard time coming together as a community and supporting the very things that could bless us the most. Instead, we continue to support the mega-monopoly giants, like Walmart and eBay and others. However, this time, eBay IS out to hurt us, and even if this is resolved sooner or later (highly unlikely) right now hundreds homeschool family auctions are being shut down by eBay, as well as other sellers who deal in educational books. They are not just shutting down the auctions with Teacher's Editions, either. They are shutting down lots of auctions that contain names like A Beka, Saxon, BJU, Alpha Omega, & McGraw Hill. Some auctions are being shut down even as people are trying to pay for them, and Pay Pal is refusing the transaction as "illegal".

If you're searching eBay for what you want, or have curriculum you need to sell, PLEASE visit "DELETED" auction site and give it your support. Otherwise, it will die a quiet and painful death like some of the others that are always "empty".

It is important for us to spread the word and support a site that can be there for us in the future.

You should also check out DELETED. It looks pretty good, and growing.

Remember, the only thing it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. You don't actively have to fight eBay, but we should actively support those who are trying to give us an alternative, or they won't survive. That what will be have?

The group I'm currently watching is going to decide on 2-3 venues and try to throw all their efforts into those so they won't be scattered. They don't want a long list of sparsely populated sites (remember homeschoolauction.com? ghost town!!) , but a short list of heavily populated sites. If we work together in solidarity, we can all get the word out and do our best to make those venues a success. It is to our best interest as homeschoolers to have 2 or 3 really good sources we can turn to for our used curriculum after all the local book sales are over and we still do not have everything we need.

These people are working to get their feedback imported from eBay, or set up at a already existing site... I think it is called "DELETED" or something like that. They are in the process of trying to get their stuff listed on other sites. One lady had 1500 auctions shut down in one day. Many are just people like you, selling what they have so they can buy next year's books.

PLEASE forward this to ALL your homeschool related lists and act quickly to support these new efforts. If we do not do this, we will all pay a heavy price in the months and even years ahead.

If you want to monitor the whole process yourself, join: DELETED

AHHH! I found something!

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/teachersedition.html

I'm thinking they mean public school teacher's manuals and homeschoolers are possibly being snagged by them, maybe automatically?

Well, that just tells me that I need to label it "Parent's Manual" and make sure the "teacher's edition" words are covered. As a matter of fact, that's what the auction I won called it! Parent's guide!!!

I'm going to post mine here in a bit.

I know I'm just sitting here talking to myself, but being a freeper and naturally suspicious, I am wondering...

If a person sees something "illegal" being sold on Ebay, they can report it. So if someone reports a homeschool "Teacher's Edition" as being illegal, then Ebay may automatically pull it.

Who would have an interest in having homeschool Ebay auctions pulled? Those trying to sell it as a home business. Not everyone who says "Lord, Lord", ya know...

Some of you may remember a few months back, when cable channel TBS ran all three movies over a weekend (FOTR on Friday night, TTT on Saturday night, and ROTK on Sunday night) and they had some funny commercials to promote it. Someone uploaded a couple of the more funny ones to YouTube...

We just got a surprise 0.03 inches of rain with the sun brightly shining. The rain didn't do much good, but it is really steamy out there now.

Have you gotten any rain yet?

Nope, not yet...watching the radar though.

I'm getting into this window thing and have found that I'm missing 4 interior panes. I found 2 panes in the garage, but haven't gotten them down to see if they actually fit anywhwere.

Meanwhile...either the bunnies or the squirrels (well...I supposed it could be a chipmunk) likes Eukanuba.
