The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

An investment, I guess.

I just don't have any occasions to wear them. Exceptin' Jen's wedding maybe. :P

I am not sure that alligator boots will be the thing to wear. Of course I suppose that's superior to Corin's dress sense.

Purty boots, but I can't take those pointy toes. My feets are too wide.

I got the yard mowed this afternoon, whilst OB commenced to pulling dead daylily leaves. He filled up a paper bag with 'em already and we still have a gazillion daylilies to de-deadleaf. LSA

If you're gonna go off wandering the wilds for months at a time, you're going to miss a few mini-dramas. ;-)

I found a nice pair of black alligator leather. "Oooooooh, purty", thought I. I looked at the tag. And - I KID YOU NOT - they were $5,700. !!!!! But they were on sale for $3,700. !!!!!

Eek!

I could see spending that on certain instruments...but footwear, even very *nice* footwear? Uhhh.

But trying 'em on could still be kinda fun!

Well, for that price they had better be soft as a baby's... uh nevermind.

Oh, and no blisters after the first wear.

For that matter, considering $5000 would buy me something close fifty pairs of my most expensive boots (which, incidentally, are about eight years old and still get worn almost daily when it isn't hot, so 50 is wayyyyyyy more than a lifetime supply), boots that expensive better come with super powers.

Horses fed. Couple of probably minor snags. To begin with, they knocked over one of the water buckets. I filled the one that's still there, but I can figure out a way to climb through the fence if need be if that won't be enough.

While I was pondering that issue, Cyn ran over and pushed the pony aside to hog her grain, too, and wouldn't go away. I wouldn't have made a fuss, but most of the grain was still there. I kinda yelled at her, but though she stopped eating it, she still didn't move away. I finally ended up pulling the dish back out through the fence until she walked away, then gave it back to the pony and stood guard. Cyn wasn't at all pleased.

I think Bay got ticked off at me, too, for "mistreating" Cyn. He was blocking her when I left. *sigh* Poor pony. Doesn't she deserve some love, too?

Evening all. Talon arrived safely. We had dinner and came back to my family's place.

On-Topic LOTR Post

I just stumbled across a new version of the three movies coming out August 29. All three movies in both formats for $16.98 on two disks each. So that's $51 for all six movies.

The big selling point is that New Line has included a new documentary on each movie. Peter Jackson hired Costas Botes to shoot a behind-the-scenes documentary showing the making of the movie. The existing features and documentaries were done by Peter and his crew, using their working materials. This documentary was done by an outsider making a movie about making the movie.

I owe it to Peter Jackson to spend more money as my way of thanking him for making the movie of the century about what was voted the novel of the century. This may also be the closest we ever get to the bloopers and outtakes Peter promised.

There is a gate, you don't have to crawl through the fence :~) They'll do fine with just the one water till tomorrow :~)

No sweat even if Cyn got all pony's grain, it's OK. Thanks!
