The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Question to the homeschoolers.

We need some good books for Luke to read that talk about creation, dinosaurs, etc. He's really getting into reading non-fiction and there's precious little out there that doesn't talk about "millions of years ago."

Thoughts?

We had to buy first class tickets because coach was booked a month in advance.

In hindsight, we're glad it worked out that way since the trip wouldn't have been nearly as comfortable. The wider seats allowed the girls to curl up for naps.

Keep 'em coming over the next few days...show us the house!

You betcha! It's still in massive disarray, but as things come together we'll be posting pics.

The girls' room is basically done. We need to build the matching end tables for the family room and get the couch. Then that room will be done (except for the TV. Ramius wants to get a bigger one).

The play room hasn't been touched. The toys are still in my car in Miami. As it turns out, they aren't going to pick up my car for transport until next week. The transport company's truck broke down and now the auto moving company is scrambling to find another transporter for nine cars (one is mine) that need to go from Florida to Washington.

Thankfully, I really don't need the car right now. But I'm eager to get the girls' toys and such here.

(Is that PeeWee's Playhouse I see on the TV there in the coffee table pic?)

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

I was wondering if anyone would notice. Alyson is a big Pee Wee fan. :-)

You're right about that, Suzi! I was dreading the flight thinking that Alyson was going to be unbearable for at least part of it.

Fortunately, both of them were just wonderful. Otherwise, Ramius might have started looking for a parachute just to get the heck out of there! LOL!

Have you looked into Ken Ham? I think he writes books like that for young children. I've never read any, though...

That's a really really cool coffee table/chest thing. Like it!

Yeah, it's neat! Both sides fold up so you can store blankets and such in there. I plan on putting some board games in there too. :-)

The end tables are smaller, slightly taller versions of it. And they were a real bargain too! Overstock.com rocks! $1.00 shipping - can you believe that?

Thank you!

Just after I wrote that, a lady from BA CHEF called me and I asked her. She said "Answers in Genesis...tell him to look there."

Not sure, I would have to ask my mom. I know she would have some suggestions. Most of our earth science was before we got into or found out about some of the more recent creation science stuff. Some very interesting stuff out there in the last 15-20 years on erosion and sediment deposition that calls into question the whole geologic time scale. That and some really good biochemical refutations of core evolutionary premises. The ones I know of were pretty advanced though. Not nearly as easy to gobble up as that 'look how fish embryos look like human ones' junk that public school text use to indoctrinate. Really though I would recommend finding some really good materials about how to THINK scientifically and analyze assumptions and form conclusions. That is where we see so much laughable nonsense in the MSM or public schools. Does not matter if it is 'global warming', evolution or anything else; health 'studies' for example: eggs are bad for you! no wait they are not, but butter is bad for you... no wait that is not either, exercise is bad!

That is the real issue. Evidence comes and goes but the ability to look at it scientifically and draw conclusions with a full understanding of what your assumptions were is the key skill to get across. So I would go for a book on logical thinking skills, one on the scientific method and THEN a nice refutation of evolutionary assumptions. (I found after learning to think that public school science books are their own refutation, heheh)

Been working on getting the HomeSat up and running for next year, making sure my VCRs are recording properly. So I had the HomeSat feeding through the tv. Just so happened, the chemistry teacher was on The Recipe Box...which is a cooking show BJ does. Well, the chem teacher is a bit of a card, so I got to watching it. Then, after that a program came on...I think it's called "Learning how to sing and play hymns." They're teaching you how to properly sing these truly historic and classic hymns.

It's nice.

BJ doesn't just feed homeschooling programs through the dish, but also movies, plays, concerts, sermons, bible studies for men, women, teenage boys and teenage girls, even kids shows! I regret that I don't utilize it as much as I could!

Msdrby's aunt's kids had outgrown their swingset, so we brought it home last weekend. The kids and the canine kids check it out Sunday evening.

Good grief, is that Bittygirl? She's not so 'Bitty' anymore, is she?

Great swingset, by the way!

I think he'll eventually figure it out. We're just finding that ~everything~ out there assumes the millions/billions/big bang "theory" to be "fact."
