The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The parks and fun places to hike and visit are usually in river valleys where it is more hilly and also well wooded.
I have an oak in my front yard that is about 5ft diameter. We have some nice hefty old trees. Wherever is not a corn field is usually wooded.

That route down the 35 is about the flattest place in the whole state. Being right off the Mississippi we are pretty carved up by rivers and streams so there are plenty of rolling hills that resulted from that. Cedar Rapids actually DID have rapids (puny ones) before they put in all the lowhead dams many years ago and ruined them.

So there were rapids, but were there cedars? :~D

Here they are....

Apologies in advance to folks on dial-up. :-/

The flight was amazingly easy re: the girls. Alyson was very excited. :-)

Ramius' DVD player was worth its weight in gold! It kept both of the girls entertained for parts of the two flights to get here. Even Ramius got to watch. ;-)

We were lucky that both flights offered food. Eating certainly helps to pass the time. For Ramius, a Bloody Mary or two helped it pass easier. heheheh...

The airports were an adventure for the girls and they even managed to find a few friends.

Becky enjoyed some puzzles between naps in-flight.

A welcome sight for travel-weary eyes from the window of the plane. And the first glimpse of The Mountain for Becky. :-)

We make it home and somehow, Ramius has the energy to build the bunk beds for the girls. They LOVE them.

I unpacked the suitcases and we called it a day.

The next morning, Ramius tackled the coffee table.

And he mowed the lawn...

And, of course, we just enjoyed the backyard together. Ramius is a natural with the kids. They adore him. :-)

I'm going to assume Ruthy wrote this, and Ramius is not now taking to talking about himself in the third person :~D

The flight pictures are great, are you in first class? I've never had wide seats like that and a place to set my croissant between the arm rests!

I always wanted a pair of labs named "Smith" and "Wesson".

I've been threatening to get a couple of betas and name them "Lynard" and "Skynard."

I've always thought that nice names for a couple of lovebirds would be Heathcliff and Cathy.

Those girls look right at home!! I'm glad the trip was relatively easy. It's SO hard to travel when the kids are out of sorts.

The only problem with that would be in the field... the call names sound too much alike to give them different commands :~D

I'd have to go with Heathcliff and Gertude.

(too much Red Skelton growing up)

The next morning, Ramius tackled the coffee table.

Ouch...I bet that hurt... why did it need tackling?

That's a really really cool coffee table/chest thing. Like it!
