The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh yeah.... um, not yet. But it is on my "to-be-read" shelf of the bookcase. Right now I'm working on A Pioneer's Search for an Ideal Home.

That looks like it would be pretty good.

You need to read Watchers sometime (soon:), especially since you said you like interesting characters:), and since you guys are such dog lovers.

Let me know when you start it...I'm anxious to hear your reactions to it.

Drink lots of water today :~) If you still feel bad, we can give you a tube of that electrolyte I bought :~)

I don't know how she does it either. I know I'd have been through all my water and still wilted into a lump in the saddle.

Earlier in the week we had talked about riding this week during the week, but we haven't got around to it yet. ecurbh's had work stuff to do and it's easy to not go. It's cloudy and overcast here today, it'd be a pleasant day to go and try out my new pad :~]

Both Harley and I are off till Mon. now. Next week she wants to bring Stormy and leave him all week and ride every morning before she has to go to work. I'm not sure I'll go with her every day, she may just have to go alone sometime.

That looks like it would be pretty good.

And what makes it even more interesting is that the author is my great-grandmother's first cousin once removed. It's the story of her 7-month trek cross-country in covered wagon to this area, and the setting up of their homestead. It just astounds and humbles me to think of what our pioneers went through to get here.

(I'll move Watchers up to the next in line.)

Oh Wow, that is cool. I like reading those kind of books too. I'll look for it. I've been on a reading kick ever since I got home from Wa. I've read about 6 books. Nothing much tho, that I would recommend.

I'm glad Watchers is next:) When start, I may re-read it too:)

Maybe just some gatorade might be more palatable :-)

From a friend - figured someone here might know...

I heard today from a barrel racer heading to a futurity in Wyoming that there was a report of Equine Infectious Anemia and they were telling folks not to brng horses even into the state.
I could not find a thing on the internet, have any of you heard anything about it?

Hey Cindy, our Church is raffling off a registered paint next month, do you need another horse? I think the tickets are 5.00 each.

Forgive me, but that's a really bad idea.

Horses should not be fodder for a $5 a pop fundraiser.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and agree with you on that. A horse should be a carefully considered purchase - the right horse for the right job for the right owner. This is a good way to create another neglect case for the Animal Cops show.

Agreed.

I was pleasantly surprised at the benefit ride that they've even done away with raffling or auctioning stallion services at that. They used to. But responsible horse breeding is not promoted with a $5 raffle, and neither is responsible horse ownership.
