The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh I get it. I am a little slow...as in 'pitching' as we say in Texas.

If I have time this evening I will tell y'all the story of Fuzzy Buck, the Hero Horse. Got to ride Buck early this a.m. so I can make it to church without smelling like horse sweat!

Good Morning.

Horse show today and it's at our fairgrounds, so I won't have to drive for an hour. Going to be hot again, but at least it has been dry. I was able to mow part of the pasture yesterday afternoon. Hopefully, I can finish today. There are still wet spots and I don't want to get stuck.

Still working on our bathroom. We are going to run out to the island this afternoon to my husband's bosses condo. We are building a shower and using his as a model. I plan to get back to horses tomorrow. Looks like a scorcher here today. Yesterday was nice which was good because our power was out. Did you get your new AC?

Down the street from me, there's a Walgreens and a small local pharmacy right across from a CVS. Explain that one! The walgreens has been going up for about a year, and they just opened a couple of weeks ago, but they're doing very little business. It's hard to change the habits of people in a small town, and it's a really stoopid place to put one. I thought for sure that they were going to put the little local pharmacy out of business, but not yet.

They put up a Rite Aid at the corner by my office and it stayed open less than a yr. Too many drugstores.

No, because we got this one working for now. When I receive my pension money, then I will get a new furnace and A/C. They are taking their sweet time getting it to me. I sent emails and called, but can't get an answer on when it's going to be.

A couple of pics from horse show today. I only wanted to show Alison, how her line up is pretty bad. She won 3 seconds, showmanship, horsemanship and pleasure. She is on the far left. The little girl, five from the end, with the sorrel, blaze face horse is her competition. She won the firsts.

The rest of the class. The horse on the far right was a gaited horse. Fox trotter, I assumed. Pretty red roan.

Yeah, they do take their time. I'm closing my 401K. Maybe I will get it by Christmas.

Alison isn't lined up bad. It's the rest of the kids that are out of place:')

I just got back from Walmart. I play dolls when Sarah comes over and she wanted two Ken dolls. He looks like such a sister. I got her 3 GI Joe dolls instead. 7 dollars, including combat equipment:')

Good Morning.

No rain yet, so I am going to mow the rest of the pasture today. The wet spots might have dried up in a day. The pasture really needs some work. It's all weeds and swamp grass. Not much forage out there to graze on.

We're supposed to get really bad storms today and high temps of only 78 on Tuesday. I'll look forward to that I think.

Good morning :~)

Glad I didn't have to ride to pick up signs yesterday... I had baaaad stomach issues yesterday and would have ended up in a world of hurt in the woods.

The steak at the ride social was sooooo good I hate to blame it on that, plus ecurbh was fine and he had the same thing... just me I guess.

...is it possible for a gaited horse not to gait? i.e. are they capable of a regular trot?...

Yes, some of them do trot, although it is discouraged by most people, just like a pace, for obvious reasons. Several of mine trot when out in the pasture but gait under saddle. I think a lot of it depends on the on the breeding. Some bloodlines are more 'hardwired' for a certain gait than others. Of course the gait can be modified by hoof length and weights, but that's not the way to go IMO.

Well, my butt's a little sore, but other than that it was fine.

Now if you'd been on that lady's gaited mule, you could've gone all day and not been sore. The older you get, the more stuff like that is important. ;o)

Awww, those alpacas are just SO cute, and so's the little girl! You can tell that the alpacas like her too. Most pictures of alpacas or llamas I've ever seen have had the awfulest expressions on their faces, like they were about "this" far from spitting on the camera. I figured they were all just that way, so I'm glad to know that there are some sweet-tempered ones in the world. I guess it all depends on how they're treated, just like horses.

...I've used grazing muzzles on George the Pony but since we haven't had any rain in like, 3 years, the grass hasn't been a problem...

You do know that drought-stressed or over-grazed grass is worse than lush spring grass? The sugar content goes through the roof because the grass is storing it like crazy, trying to survive.
