The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Love the pics! Cyn has this look on her face like "I think I can, I think I can" in pic with just her and ercubh Glad to hear that both horses held up well! :-) This may sound wicked stupid, but is it possible for a gaited horse not to gait? i.e. are they capable of a regular trot? Is it frog or misstargets with the gaited horses? I can never remember... :-/

I had to look it up but it's spelled "Schlotzskys", but it's pronounced like cindy spelled it:)

It's a sandwich shop. Not really a sub tho. The bread is special, and I think there is a special meat on it, seasoned different. Mack and I laugh, that a Schlotzsky taste's great about once a year. So good you go back for a second and the second one is just awful....:) Strange phenomena:)

It is a woman, but she maybe doesn't look it with the hat and the jacket and the mule :~D She has very short hair. It was a good challenge for Bay to keep up. He ~never~ follows someone faster than him, and it unnerved him enough he was fighting me to go faster to keep up the whole way. :~) I tried to slow him down so ecurbh didn't feel so pressured to trot so fast, but I think it's great when he's got that much spunk.

You sure would recognize that bridge, it's the U-turn bridge you went on :~D

I don't ~think~ we're riding tomorrow, I think he's got the mounted patrol to ride sweep and pick up signs... but I'm not sure that won't change, we could get a call at 3:00 tomorrow afternoon for all I know :~)

I make a big batch. I use a pound of sausage. When it cools I scoop it in baggies and freeze it. Makes fast snacks.

Mmmm...

There's a place called Panara Bread that's a sorta fast food place, I really don't know what to call it, but really really good with fantastic panini sandwiches and great salads and things, and everything is made fresh.

I don't think they can trot, but they can ~walk~... I think they just choose not to. :~)

They make all these great sandwhiches but I really like the bread with just cheese. It's a treat. Maybe I stop at one every few years or so.

Well if you ever get the chance to eat at one go for it. It's a bit confusing when you get there because they have a really wierd ordering system, but the food is really good.

I only make it when I have everyone over. I scoop out a little extra for Eddie and I later before I serve. They don't miss what they didn't know they had.

So how did ecurbh like trotting that much?

Well, my butt's a little sore, but other than that it was fine.

I guess I didn't answer all the queswtions :~)

Bay wasn't sore at all when we got back, and no rubs, cinch, pad or otherwise... I used the big square pad that has fleece on the bottom and canvase on top with the pockets in it, a thin fleece, and the cashell between them, it worked just fine... new pad's not in yet.

I decided from the way the saddle bags fell on him when I saddled today that the rear edge of the bags might have been what rubbed him so much, it was all gunked up, and when it's got the weight of water bottles in it, it looked heavy enough to really rub. I made sure there was pad under it today.

You all have long sleeves on, and jackets....unbelieveable. It was remarkably cool and cloudy when we started, but had cleared up nicely by the time we got back to the trailhead. It's only 72 right now. :~D

Depends if they're five-gaited or three-gaited.

Some of both. The five-gaited ones can do W-T-C, slow gait, and rack.

(my mom was a saddle seat rider and rode five-gaited Saddlebreds.)
