This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I saw in a catalog somewhere of a double bottle, one for the horse and one for the rider. The horse had a tube for his.
Shirley has some saddle bags that are made similar to this and the water bottles bounce out. They actually manage to work their way out the bottom of the holder, between that little strip in the middle and the side. He finally quit carrying them in there, so it's kinda wasted space right now. I also wouldn't want to put anything in that little mesh pocket that I didn't want to lose. It looks neat, but I don't think it's very practical unless all you were going to do was walk. And Lord knows we don't want to be doing that! ;o)
I admit to being very picky:) I just don't like stuff on the front of my saddle. It always seems to interfer with the reins. I had to work hard to remember to keep my hands low, and if there is something on the front it causes me to keep my hands to high, or the reins slip under whatever is on the front. I use to have a bottle holder (the dog got a hold of it:), that I could tie to the back cinch rigging. I need to find another one of those, or even two, one for each side.

That is interesting that you don't have Sonic's...
A few years ago, I posted a recipe for a soup that had Ro-tel in it. I was surprised that only the people in this area had heard of it.

Around here there's a CVS, Rite-Aid or Walgreen's on just about every corner. I don't see how they all stay in business.
Down the street from me, there's a Walgreens and a small local pharmacy right across from a CVS. Explain that one! The walgreens has been going up for about a year, and they just opened a couple of weeks ago, but they're doing very little business. It's hard to change the habits of people in a small town, and it's a really stoopid place to put one. I thought for sure that they were going to put the little local pharmacy out of business, but not yet.
Walgreens and Walmarts compete here. Walmarts made me mad awhile back. They have bankers ours so I transfered my RX to Walgreens because they were 24hrs. Now they have stopped. Remember awhile back when I had posted that Walmarts had something like a drive thru bank behind the meat department. It's a RX pick up. The Pharmacy is on the other side of the store. It's all automated.
Ah, the Rotel. Have you tried the ones made esp for chilli?
When I was in Austin at an inservice a couple of months ago I went to my first CVS. Ii was nice. Then I walked to Slotskys(?) and got a cheese sandwich before going back to my room. We don't have either, here.

We rode, not with Bob, who was called away on other duties, but rather with a woman who is a retired veterinarian on a gaited mule.
We had to follow along behind her nearly at a trot the whole way, and she was holding back from really moving out :~D I don't think ecurbh has trotted this much ever :~)
We did the 8 miles under two hours, and that's with stopping at every intersection to staple up signs and tie ribbons :~)
Didn't take all that many scenery pictures this time, but I did take the picture of this other mule who I thought was really cute. She was with the group marking the long trail today.
Bay held up really well, even at the fast pace, I was really pleased. She was impressed with him, given his age and my description of his symptoms.
LOL...Have you ever tried Rot-tel cheese dip with sausage in it.....MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM:)
Becky
Great pictures:). I recognize that spot in the third picture..right?
You all have long sleeves on, and jackets....unbelieveable.
Ok, the person in the first pictures is a lady???
So how did ecurbh like trotting that much?
I think all mules are cute. A gaited one...would be hard to keep up with. Mules walk out pretty good as is, let alone a gaited one.
So are you going to the ride tomorrow?
Is Bay sore at all? how did you have him padded up?
Becky
No, I've never tried it. But I have put regular rotel in chili.
Becky
I've never heard of slotskys. Is it a sub shop? We just got our first Quizno's a couple months ago too...
