The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well aren't we the busy people... now we're going to the fair :~)

Bob's wife Kay called, looking for Bob, wondering if we were back - Bob's off doing something and not answering his cell.
Anyhow their daughter is showing her Al Pacas, or Llamas or something at the fair, tonight is the obstacle course and trail class - thought a bunch of kids trying to get llamas to got through obstacles sounded like a fun thing to watch :~)

So we're going to go and have fair food for dinner and take in the local fair. Back later.

(my mom was a saddle seat rider and rode five-gaited Saddlebreds.)

Neat! I've always wanted to ride a gaited horse, because I'm really curious to know what it's like, but I really don't know any gaited horse people. I've known just about every type of horse people there is to know, but no gaited people.

It's really a different world. Back when I started riding, they considered themselves quite a cut above us rowdy hunter-jumper folks.

My mom nearly had a heart attack when she showed up at the stable one day and encountered me jumped a rather large Thoroughbred over a three foot oxer . . .

Really :~)

Here's Jessie with her Alpaca...

Obstacles kids can make llamas jump through :~)

The goal here is to sidepass down the pole...

Sometimes they don't ~want~ to jump it :~)

And here she is with another Alpaca... I think they have such exquisite faces. :~)

Well, unlike men, we're not dumb enough to pee off the top of a cliff! ;-) (And anyway, we'd probably fall over backward if we tried.)

I've used grazing muzzles on George the Pony but since we haven't had any rain in like, 3 years, the grass hasn't been a problem. We're starting to look like the dustbowl. I need to take some pictures of what my pasture looks like. It's sad.

That Alpaca is darling. What's it's name?

I always wanted to get a llama and name it Tony. Get it? Tony Llama? Lame joke.

We have had at least one thunderstorm every day lately. We are enjoying it as long as we can. We could go 2-3 weeks without mowing before. Now twice a week isn't enough. Nice break. It heads out north though. I'll try to shoo some your way:')

Please do shoo some our way. This is getting ridiculous. supposed to be 103 today. It's so dry and windy that one little spark could set off the whole county a blazin'.
