WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

I have been shopping for one. This was a 5 megapixel Fuji. It was a close out, about $30 more than the low end no-zoom fun camera. It was a good bit cheaper than my 1 megapixel Nikon which was several years old.

Hubby has been a professional photographer. He's holding out for a digital SLR that he can use his good lenses on.

I was also going to buy some photo editing software, and they had the adobe photoshop elements on sale.

Weakness. But I'm happy.

Come to LV...we'll take a drive up to Utah so you can remember what snow pack is. And forget about an ocean view...the best we can offer is the briny Great Salt Lake.

;o]

Ogden gets about 17 inches. Ben Lomond is one of the wettest places in the state, because it sticks out a little further and can funnel the moisture in. Tooele gets about 15 inches, Santaquin gets 16, St. George gets a little more than 8 inches.

Shopping excursions are like earthquakes.

The pressure builds. Static forces maintain the status quo ... until ... suddenly there you are, with the thing you have been desiring right in your hands -- and it's on sale!

And I don't care what they want to say about the economy, this phenomenon is going to be called Bush's Fault.

It isn't really "dry." You can buy beer in some stores, but to buy wine or liquor, you have to go to the State Liquor store. Unless the rules have changed since last I lived there...

A snowpack is the snow that gathers over the course of a winter or snow storm.

In the desert, it's important, because rain water runs off too quickly, and doesn't get absorbed well. Most of the rain we get actually falls as snow and it gets a chance to perculate into the ground instead of run off into the Great Salt Lake or down some river to be used in swimming pools in Los Angeles.

I don't think that has really happened here since 1947...

Still the same.

Personally, having been raised in New Orleans, where my favorite grocery store had a better collection of wine and spirits for sale than any state liquor store I have seen, I think it's crazy. I ought to be able to pop over to the local grocery or drug store and get me my bottle of whatever if I want to.

At least in Idaho you can buy wine at the grocery stores. Here it's 3.2 beer or wine coolers (a/k/a soda pop with a mild kick)

Maybe we should call it the Adam Smith Fault?
