Actually, I have grown tomatoes in my time. Nothing beats the taste of a fresh garden tomato, still warm from the sun!

But in order to not have to deal with deformed tomatoes, you have to grow more than two.

Slice up the nice, round ones, and use the more misshapen ones for salads.

Actually, there are all kinds of "Poetry." Most af them are simply forms of prose.

My definition of poetry in "English Heroic Verse," sometimes called iambic pentameter. It has a rhythm and elegance that e. e. cummings may eschew, but it feels comfortable to me.

Still Voices

I feel like such a dummy. This wasn’t what I planned .
How could I let the news of this come to me second-hand?
Paul Winchell was my hero, for ages I recall,
I wanted to be like him ever since I was quite small.

His voices now are silent. He joins a Pantheon,
Of people who were many things, and so cannot be gone.
The many people that they were, of wood, and wire, and wit,
Will live again. They cannot die, just change a little bit.

Poor Kermit had his troubles. Life was a real tough gig,
He had the World on shoulders that were never very big.
When Henson had to let him go, so sadly did he note,
His voice was quite affected, with a “people in his throat.”

Mel Blanc was also protean, with dozens to display;
Idiosyncratic characters we remember to this day!
Man of a Thousand Voices! Yet a plain man overall,
His vocal talents had a range that kept us in his thrall.

And now Paul Winchell takes his place beside the Master Gent,
Consummate entertainer who bewitched a continent.
For how could Bergen keep on doing a ventriloquism show,
Without someone commenting it was on the Radio!!

Yes, they were entertainers quite beloved of us all,
And in the wings are others who will answer to the call,
To throw their voices in the ring and be more than they are,
Here’s hoping they’ll have luck, and they’ll go just as far!
