WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

Eh... I just tune the clock/radio into whatever comes across as moderately annoying so I'm less tempted to hit the snooze button more than once or twice.
My music tastes, as described before, are a bit on the eclectic side but generally run towards heavy and dark.

It's actually only a light drizzle, but it's something. I'll take it. The yard needs water.

Heavy and Dark.
I tend to like heavy and older. Most new stuff -- with the front man grunting and frothing unitelligibly like a rabid, constipated sasquatch -- just leaves me totally underwhelmed. At least with R.J. Dio, Ian Gilian, and Ritchie Blackmore I could nearly always understand the words.

Seraphim Shock, Otep (female death metal lead singer), Pantera, Primus, Coal Chamber, Lust Murder Box, ect...
Depends on what kind of a mood I'm in. These days, the only time I get to listen to a solid block of music is when I'm working out. Not exactly a time to plug in the easy-listening type stuff. I find that auditory adrenaline is an excellent motivator.

I'll take it. The yard needs water. Yah. We replanted our front yard recently. Had to turn the sprinklers on Sunday (following the first mowing), but it's holding up well.

...and as for eclectic...
I like R&B Funk, Classical (especially Baroque), Trance/Electronica/Hi-NRG/Eurodance, '80's pop/nu-wave, Big Band (Goodman, Dorsey, Miller), pre-90's metal, and a lotta straight-up rock 'n' roll; from the Beatles to ZZ Top.
Feature a playlist like:
Beethoven, Black Sabbath, The B-52's, Accept, Paul Van Dyk, The Cranberries, The Who, Glenn Miller, Sly and the Family Stone, Donna Collins, The Scorpions, Dead or Alive, U2, Mozart, Gap Band, DJ Tiesto, 4 Strings, Pink Floyd,
[Did you hear Syd Barrett's passed on? :-(

Outfly, INXS, Van Halen...
You get the idea.

Slows down around 30,000, as I recall. It was 35,000+ and 4th of July weekend 2005, and there was some problem with FR overall. I thought it had been fixed. ???
But I know less about the site than most other folks, I'm sure. Which means I have to bow to superior knowledge.
I was only thinking of a way to get more people to stay longer or visit more often.

We're getting that "brown spotty" effect again this year. I've heard varying explanations of why that happens from bugs to bad soil.
The hot weather did a number on my planters. One basket died complely because I have a family of juncos nesting in it and the parents wouldn't tolerate my attempts to water it. Now that the babies have hatched, they should fledge in about another week to ten days and I can replace it. Right now the neighbors just think I'm an uncaring plant killer. :-)

Who knew?
Actually, I JUST ordered in a belt for my old linear-tracking turntable so I can get my vinyl back in the mix. I should be spinning Def Leppard again by the weekend.

I've noticed it getting quiet here in general... my Ireland List is getting very few responses at the moment.

QUIET!!!!
Trying to sleep over here. If they see I'm awake, they may make me do some actual work. That'd be horrible.

I bought a stereo system that has a turntable, and little by little, I'm replacing my vinyl...:o])
I'm still looking for "Pinball Wizard" with Ringo Starr, Rachie Havens, Tina Turner, etc. I have the re-make, but it's not anywhere near as good.
