The victim, a single mom who turned to exotic dancing to support her two kids, attends North Carolina Central University, a mostly black college in Durham.
She plans to keep a low profile until the students go on trial to avoid inflaming tensions in the black community, where opinion is running heavily against the privileged students.
One of the most hurtful things for the woman about the media circus surrounding the case, the cousin said, is the tendency to assume the worst about her because she is a stripper.
"She's a victim and she's a human being," the cousin said. "Her occupation couldn't justify that a crime like this was committed."

I'm no Holocaust Denier. Nor have I ever said anything but that the boy's alleged comment was coarse, vulgar and vile.
I based my "not racist" commentary upon the fact that the "ugly" comment was obviously part of a situation with the Stripper appearing to have lobbed the first ugly "shot" in a verbal spat which appears to have been about "money". And that taking the comment out of the facts of what went down to label the comment "racist" was by its very nature not in the sense of being fair to what actually happened. If in fact the comment was made, as I also said in my post: it was stupid, coarse, and vile.
And yes, this morning's news shows me that I wasn't far off the mark. Kim Roberts has got to be grateful that she has that alleged" racial comment to cast about on as she is more than likely going to use that as the reason she got mad.
When the fact is: She and the other stripper stopped dancing when those in attendance were bored and suggesting some type of action, and made a horrid, snarky comment about a broom. She slapped him.
She and the other stripper went to the bathroom for almost 30 minutes.
Further, Kim, has said, in a memo published everywhere -- that she sees no reason why she shouldn't use this case, of an alleged gang rape, to cash in and further herself.
Check out her webpage? Her "friends" and she must use this "racist" type of language as a fun way to communicate with each other.
The alleged racist comment? Apparently the other stripper was too passed out to hear it. The young man, as I understand it, asserts Kim started that "hurling insults" jazz.
Have at it. Or me, once again.
While Finnerty may have to supply a witness list at some point, he has no obligation to meet with or talk to the DA; at any time. now that he was arrested, the speedy trial clock starts to tick.
In the state of Washington, it begins at arraignment or 14 days after an arrest, whichever is earlier. If a person is in custody, the state has 60 days to start the trial, if out on bail, it has 90 days.
A final witness list usually isn't due until a week or so prior to trial.
If Finnerty wasn't at the party, the DA has an impossible problem, because he has to prove that Finnerty was there. Absent picture or witness evidence that he was even at the house at the time of the alleged rape, the case will have to be disnissed.
Since the judge will likely have to toss the unconstitutional process used to ID Finnerty by the DA, the case collapses on that issue alone.
I have never been drunk in my life, but have been to a few parties when I was young where a guy would occasionally get drunk and fall asleep on the floor. No one helped those guys up. Just let them sleep it off where they were.
I didn't put a name to my recollection. SOMEBODY, explained how it was some kind of local custom for folk hereabouts to refer to each other's "cotton picking" past. Therefore, it was suggested, the "cotton pickin" remark should not be seen as a racist insult. I don't know who said that, but it was absurd.
I don't believe I'm having to say it yet again. Good Lord.
I heard the Reverund Jesse has pledged to (a-hem) pay for her college classes.
What makes you so sure they didn't check on her?
Decency 101.
I give up. Truly. Carry on.
Oh, I know. I was just suggesting ideas of how DNA might not be left behind in a rape case.
Why didn't even just ONE of the guys have the common sense or decency to see if she was OK? To help her, instead of doing the ugly polar opposite of laughing at her and taking pictures of her as she lay motionless on the ground? WTF? Decency dictates that you help their pets, if in that state.

They were not pets. They are thinking human being. Thinking human being who just tried to steal from the team members. They were trying to steal what $400? You tell me, some steals your purse or tries to snatch your purse off your shoulder and then falls down leaving you, what do you do?
A. Take a picture of them?
B. Help them up and see them on their way?
Thank, yes, I'm familiar with the process. My point was simply that the defense will have to provide a witness list. That means Nifong can contact those people, which doesn't mean they have to talk to the prosecution, but Nifong will have the names of Collin's alibi witnesses.
Reality can bite. It can bite harder if you're stupid...
I have to disagree. The guys put Mangum in the car at 12:41. Roberts notices that Mangum doesn't have all her stuff. She goes back for it, doesn't get it, has an argument, calls them some choice racist names, leaves in a huff, yelling and threatening to call police. The cabby pulls up as this is going on, and notices a woman wearing jeans and a sweater coming from the side yard of the house yelling and looking angry. The time it took Roberts to go back, have an argument, and get back in the car is probably 2-3 minutes, so she takes off right about 12:45. They drive away to someplace out of police sight because Roberts, who is running the show, has a warrant out for her arrest, stages the 9-1-1 call at 12:53, and the cops arrive at 12:55. Where they go next is a mystery, then they arrive at Kroger - maybe they went directly there. Maybe Roberts is trying to call Mangum's BF because she really doesn't want to call the cops because of her warrant. Maybe Roberts goes into the store and buys some booze or a Coke, and kicks back deciding what to do.
I think Mangum was drinking before she arrived. Maybe Roberts had a bottle in with her stuff, and drugged Mangum with the plan to rob her later. From the time they were in the bathroom, which would have been about 12:10, until Mangum fell down the steps at 12:30 was just about the time it would take for the drug to start hitting her, and it would have been in full effect in another twenty minutes. If Roberts walked out of the house the second time at about 12:20, leaving Mangum in the bathroom another ten minutes painting her nails, she would have been waiting in the car a full twenty minutes. From what I've seen and heard of her, she's not the good samaritan type who's going to hang around that long. Maybe she was talking on her phone to pass the time while Mangum was looking for her stuff and trying to get the money back from the guys.
Bissey said he heard the "It's only a $100" statement when the guys were in the sideyard talking while one of the others was at the car talking the women into coming back in, so that would have been from about 12:05 to maybe 12:09.
Why can't she testify? The prosecution won't want to call her, but why shouldn't the defense? She's a great defense witness, in an oddball kind of way.
When you announce that you want to 'spin' your story, you cannot be deemed credible.
I'm aware of that, but if the cabby testifies girst, and part of that testimony is that he saw a woman dressed in a sweater and jeans come from the side of the house when he picked up the four guys on his final trip over there and that she was angry, and the cabby will be believed because he's very credible, she will have to testify truthfully about a material fact or she would face perjury charges. She would also have to explain how and when she got into the jeans and sweater. That, too, is a material issue. Further, it gives the defense an opportunity to expose the prosecutor to some extent, since he cut her a break on her bail and probation extension. They can also call the court clerk and have her testify to what documents Nifong signed off on as to Kim's bail and probation, in relation to when her story changed. This would be DEVASTATING for the prosecution. Then, the email to the PR firm would pretty much cinch her position as an opportunist trying to advantage herself through the case, including the bail and probation deal with Nifong. I would think that Nifong would be very nervous about her being called, because she was not able to keep her big mouth shut, and getting a deal on her bail and probation wasn't enough for her. Her greed really turned their deal sour for him. Kim Roberts is bad news.
When she asked how to 'spin' her story she damaged her testimony beyond redemption.
<< We don't know that. The reported photo timeline has her standing on the porch at 12:30 and lying on it at 12:37. We don't know what time she fell or whether the photographer stood there looking at her the whole time. She may have gone down at 12:36:45 and they picked her up and put her in the car as soon as possible. Given how things have shaken out so far, I'm giving the guys the benefit of the doubt. >>
Hey here's a photo I overlooked, apparently the woman went down at 12:31:26:
*******
12:31:26: The alleged victim appears to be stumbling down the back steps of the house.
12:37:58: A series of photos beginning at this time shows the woman lying on her left side on the back porch, seemingly passed out or asleep. Pink splotches are on a wrought-iron railing beside her.

I'm pretty sure her kids don't know because they are like 6 and 7
