The victim, a single mom who turned to exotic dancing to support her two kids, attends North Carolina Central University, a mostly black college in Durham.
She plans to keep a low profile until the students go on trial to avoid inflaming tensions in the black community, where opinion is running heavily against the privileged students.
One of the most hurtful things for the woman about the media circus surrounding the case, the cousin said, is the tendency to assume the worst about her because she is a stripper.
"She's a victim and she's a human being," the cousin said. "Her occupation couldn't justify that a crime like this was committed."

I think the defense will have to provide their witness list to the prosecution.
What I don't understand though is how did her phone get into the bathroom if she had it at 12:31 on the porch?
That's my take, too.
reminds me of the movie fatal attraction scared some men straight and then Magic's announcement of his contacting HIV slowed down a few more; would love to see what tony soprano would do if one of his dancers pulled a stunt like that, this whore has given a bad name to strippers a lot of cancellations and no bookings on the horizon for these businesses
when the officer radioed that there was probaley gonna be a admission to the drunk tank she screamed rape, also was on probation and this would have been a violation and most likely a visit from CPS
The girl or the D.A. will get cold feet, and I agree with everything else you say.
One lesson from all of this: young men, lots of alcohol, and strippers in a "private home" is not a great idea.
"Toga, toga, toga ........" would be better. Gotta love D-Day in the stairwell on his motorcycle, then tapping the Lone Ranger theme on his throat. Back in '64 at my school it was a lot like that ............. no strippers.
It was stated by the neighbor, Bissey. He's the one who overheard it. he said one guy was saying they should get the money back, and the other said something like, "It's only a hundred bucks."
I think they roughed Mangum up just a little bit - grabbed her arms while another one took her purse away, and then they threw her out, and I think this happened between 12:30 and 12:37, then they probably shoved her out the door, and then she tripped and fell.
No, the pictures of her laying on the steps are the last two, and they're 7 minutes after the two of her standing on the porch by the door.
She probably doesn't want to cut him in for his 40%.
There was $400 in $20 bills found in the house, per the search warrant. I think some of the guys took her $400 back. She probably already had the $160 from an earlier trick.
No, actually the last one is the 12:41 one at the car
No, the search warrant says they only found $160 at the house. It says she complained of losing $400
Yeah, and all that sweraing to God and questioning the character of the boys..........from a woman who embezzled $25,000 from her employer. I think it was Kim who started the trouble because she intended to rip them off. Crystal was drunk when she got there, but she may have given her a drug, intending to rip her off herself.
There is a way to do a photo lineup constitutionally IMO with only lacrosse players but it's not worth digressing to go into it
I think Kim got her $400, but I think they took back the $400 from Crystal, and that's what the whole thing is about.
We don't know that. The reported photo timeline has her standing on the porch at 12:30 and lying on it at 12:37. We don't know what time she fell or whether the photographer stood there looking at her the whole time. She may have gone down at 12:36:45 and they picked her up and put her in the car as soon as possible. Given how things have shaken out so far, I'm giving the guys the benefit of the doubt.
And the only reason Kim waited for her was to rip her off.
Well, yes, but I wasn't counting that one, in terms of the discussion about Mangum going in and out of the house. My point was that she didn't lay on the steps for 7 minutes.
Fair point. She could have been laying on the ground for 7 minutes, or for very little time, we don't know either way from the photos alone.
No ... his attorney is sitting tight. Smart move.
