And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer:

Image hosting by Photobucket
This is continuing the “Deathball” story, where our hero is being forced in gym class to play a horrifying game (based on my own Middle School experiences…hardly an exaggeration).

But actually, this individual strip represents something important: the lines are getting darker. After a while of practicing, my artistic abilities were gradually getting better. Here, we see the contrast is greater and the strip is a little easier to look at.

Be sure to show up Friday, because then we’re going to meet the third major character to be introduced and become a character. And you definitely won’t want to miss that.

Sorry. In Amish culture, you don't grow the beard until you're married. But I do wear some happenin' suspenders.

Really? I had no idea. (about the beard)

Do your suspenders look like these?

Yes, and they are pipe-scented. MMmmm....sometimes we get mistaken for computer programmers.

I don't. That's just how they come in the store. It's like a special selling point. You can't get regular suspenders...or DELUXE suspenders.

I got this crazy image in my head of you wearing pipe flavored rainbow colored suspenders now and I am feeling rather spooked.

Hey, did you get pinged about hosting the singles thread?

I got a FReepmail from DollyCali about it, but that wasn't announcing WHO would be hosting the thread; it was more of a "reply if you are still interested" sort of thing.

Sounds like fun to me, so I replied. I can be paired up with anyone, doesn't matter to me.

Yeah, me either, really.

I've hosted the thread a few times before, as sort of a backup emergency guy (when it would mysteriously not appear). But I still don't have a current copy of the ping list.

ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE.

I can't find a thing.

I'm kinda in the same place. I haven't work in over 6 months (mostly by choice so I could start school), but since around the 1st of the year, I have been applying all over the place for a temp or contract job, but no one wants to place me because they think I'm over-qualified now. (WTF?)

I've been out of work for about that long too.

I'm going *bonkers*! I can't stand this anymore!

I'm even willing to work as a stocker at a grocery store, for crying out loud. I'm not aiming high! But nothing...I can't find ANYthing.

Last year, I put in 16 different applications before finally being hired as a pizza delivery boy. That went on for a few months before the store went belly-up. It's been unemployment horror ever since.

Any other jobs you've held in the past besides pizza delivery? Just curious.

My very first job was at a yogurt shop that went bankrupt after I worked there for about 6 months. My next job was at another yogurt shop, and I got fired after 3 weeks cause my eeeeeevil manager thought I couldn't handle making waffles. After that I worked at The Wherehouse for about 2 years, and then Tower Records for another 2 years as a cashier.

I was really into art and music at the time and I also worked a couple years at Aaron Brothers Art Mart (not sure if they have that in the east). I bought all my art supplies there at a discount while I was taking my art courses. I was in heaven.

My first job was when I was 16. It was at a grocery store (local chain) for just short of 2 years.

Then I went off to college and didn't work. That summer, I did get a job working frozen foods at another grocery store. That lasted less than a month, then I took a leave of absence and went back to school. I came back and worked there for 2 more weeks during Christmas vacation.

I didn't go back after school ended. During my last semester I worked for about 3 weekends doing sub-contractual work at a metal shop.

Then we moved to NC, and after a desperate search for something pertaining to my major (I wanted a GOOD job) I settled into the pizza place.

And that's it for me.

Man, I would love to work in a place like that. But no, that place doesn't exist over here.

You could always post a resume on monster.com. That tends to work well for finding any kind of job now-a-days. If you're comfortable with it, I could even help you write it. I would also suggest, if I may, you sign up with a local employment agency if you haven't done so. If you have a smidgen of experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) then you would be very employable, IMO. Have you tried going that route?

I have done all those things. No luck. Monster, posting the resume, employment agencies...all for naught. I have experience with Microsoft Word and Powerpoint, but I'm unfamiliar with Excel. The employment agency told me pretty much point-blank that I was unemployable for anything related to that. Experience isn't enough...I don't have job experience with those programs.
