NEW YORK, March 13 (UPI) -- Religious parody on "South Park" has led Isaac "Chef" Hayes to quit the Comedy Central cartoon.
Hayes, who has been with "South Park" since 1997, issued a statement Monday saying he has requested a release from the show because of recent episodes displaying "inappropriate ridicule of religious communities."
"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry toward religious beliefs of others begins," Hayes said.
"Religious beliefs are sacred to people and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."
Hayes did not specify any episodes in particular, but a recent show called "Bloody Mary," which included the defiling a statue of the Virgin Mary drew fire from Roman Catholic groups.
They need to have the Thetans abduct Chef!

Is it possible that they sent a reporter to write this who didn't that Hayes is a scientologist and that South Park just did a scientology episode?
Those bastards!
I think I've got about a three fifty.
What happened to Evening Star?
Don't be givin' that monster no tree fitty!
Maybe he was threatened by the Church of Appliantology... erm I mean Scientology?
I'm surprised it took Hayes this long.
Considering the number of Scientologinuts in Hollywood and assuming this is a lifestyle/culture reporter, you'd never get another interview. Even worse, Tom might come after you to bite your kneecaps or sue you....
EveningStar is banned?
What happened to Evening Star?? He is certainly no rabble-rouser!
Hayes has suddenly discovered that South Park makes fun of religions.
Amazing. What next? Will he discover gambling in a casino?
Children ...
You!
And Me!
And you and you!
Simultaneous lov-in, baby
I'll miss Chef, but if he wants to go let him. Hayes' career is dead now. He had nothing other than South Park.
Maybe they should offer him more money - another three'fitty or so.
He didn't do this after the Mormon episode. Another classic.
I'd be more worried that he'd bite my pillow.
Chef being a hypocrite. I won't be eating his chocolate salty balls anymore.
I think they're showing the Scientology episode on Wednesday this week. I only saw part of it when it originally aired. I can't wait to see the full episode this time.
"Come out of the closet Tom. Nobody is going to be mad."
