The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I would say I love Moleskine's design, but they need to hire a paper purchaser that understands the needs of fountain pen users - most of their paper ends up with bleedthrough....

I should get you to consult ...!

The bleedthrough thing brings me back to the Foray gelpens. These babies rock ... I will be buying more. I'm told that they don't bleed through Moleskine paper.

What do you think of Clairefontaine? And what's your favorite journalling notebook?

Here's another product idea. I'm trying to find a new portfolio for Clare. It is mine from when I was in college 35 years ago. It is vinyl, (but leatherette or even microfiber would be nice) holds 8 1/2 x 11 paper, has a slash pocket on the inside left, and an alligator clip on the inside right. Clare uses it for her drawing paper, and loves it because it fits easily in her YakPak. It is not too thick, like a binder would be, and she only keeps about 10 or 15 pieces of paper in it at a time. The only addition I could think of to make it better might be a couple of little tubes to hold pencils or micron pens.

I'd think something like that would be a good seller for folks who like to take something with them so they can draw wherever they go. A smaller, 5x7 version would be nice, too. She has a little spiral notebook that she takes when she has her YakPak mini with her, but it would be nice to bring along the paper that she likes to use for her drawing.

I've used gelpens with Moleskines...no problem. But it bugs me that I'm limited.

I adore Clairefontaine paper. Need to buy some more, actually - I use their plain paper for pretty much any letter writing or goofing around with pens or practicing. It's what I'm using for this calligraphy, as a matter of fact.

I think my ideal journal would be a Moleskine filled with Clairefontaine or Rhodia paper...though at this point, I believe they're one and the same - Clairefontaine and Rhodia, that is.

As it is, for journalling I kinda alternate between Moleskines and somethingelse. I've used Clairefontaine notebooks for journaling...also have used just Mead composition books, which actually have very nice paper, though I wish college ruled or graph ones were easier to find. I also like a lot of the record books you can get at office supply stores, but those can be very pricey, even compared to Moleskine style journals.

I'd love to have a really nice embossed leather one, just once, someday.

How many other pen fanatics have you met?

I ask because I met one at work --- a new employee. He and I compared the fine points of our daily pens.

Haven't met many others. But one of the Nano guys in Fort Collins had a nice older style Namiki Vanishing Point - I spotted it right off and we chatted a bit about pens throughout the month of November.

~sip~

Just got an email that my best friend (from college, also my best man)'s dad passed away in the night. He was 77 and had been ill for a while, so it's not a shock.

Scott and I toured together with the college ministry team. He was with me when I got the news about ~my~ dad.

I'm thinking weekend plans may have changed and I may be taking a trip to the other side of Pittsburgh this weekend. Need to get the details.

Yes it is - beautiful day, gypsygirl got a long walk this morning.

Been reading up on KS CCW; it appears that the application process starts 01-01-07 and approval can take 180 days, sigh. Reciprocity will be on a state-by-state basis, atty gen will need be sure the licensing is as stringent as KS. Looks like you have quite a bit of time to decide what you'll get for your permit. Sig? Glock? S&W? :-)

I need to decide what kind of gun I want first! Should consult the T-shirt first. :)

Dunno if I want to go through all that registration stuff, though....it's not like I go a lot of places. I pretty much want to take it to the range, keep it around the house, and maybe carry it in the car.
