The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Sigh. Too bad... darn it, I wish I could remember precisely where I put it.

Oh well, in a month or two, spend thirty bucks and get a new version of the player, that was the super-cheap one anyway.

Or get a universal remote...

Or a DVR... we don't have DVD remote either... but the remote on the DVR works for it, it's got universal buttons.

How much are universal remotes? And are they really universal?

This thing is a cheapie...off-brand. I wonder if regular universal remotes would work with it.

Hm...I bet Fred Meyer carries remotes. And Radio Shack is right there too, isn't it?

Neeeeed Jack!!

I think they work for anything... You program them, there's instructions for how to get it to find the right signal I think.... Not sure how much, but probably less than a new player.

You sure there aren't buttons to access the menus from the machine?

Only buttons that work in the menu are play and stop. Means I can't navigate to other episodes.

It doesn't have any 'select' arrow buttons or anything?

It has two buttons that allow you to skip to other chapters once a movie is playing, but they don't do diddly squat at the menu page, and trying to chapter through one episode and into another doesn't work - it goes back to the main menu again, and then I can't go past the first episode.

Well that sounds incredibly frustrating!

"I know!" she says...

Head up to Fred Meyer/Radio Shack.

Ack! That would be horribly annoying.

Whoa. Just got done talking to my friend John, who'd been talking to another classmate, and apparently my assignment that's due Monday isn't just producing valid results, it's producing optimal ones. That's a new feeling this semester. I feel much less stupid. And I have a whole nother day to write up my excuses - I mean explanations. I feel good!

I don't have a remote for the TV either...so it doesn't hurt to get a universal dealie.

I think I'm gonna go off adventuring and at least do a price check.

*sigh*

And I just saw an ad from a military family in Bremerton that are being sent overseas, and are giving away a full bred 10 month old Golden - dark colored, too.

I need to get away from the 'puter for a bit. And put myself on a dog site moratorium for a few weeks at the least.

I think they all sortof self-program... It tries signals till something works.

This isn't blue, but y'all might like this wine...if you can find it.

It's "Red Mountain Laurel" from Chateau Morrisette in SW Virginia. It's sweeter than I usually like wine to be. But it sort of has a scuppernong taste to it.

In other news, I'd be in bed now, but I gotta go pick up Jr. when the youth choir gets back from their trip to Baltimordor.

I saw some of the wildest colored Gerbera Daisies in Lowe's this week. They were bright orange and pink! Some of them look like this.

Well...I got one. It doesn't scan. You can manually make it scan, but it isn't working.

*sigh*

I should know better than to get the cheapest anything. Guess I gotta take it back, but I'm not sure I wanna go tonight.

Grrrrrr! I really wanted to just relax and watch some 24 tonight.
