The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh heh!! Good pics...Rosie's filthy! Filthy is good. Makes you feel so good when you get cleaned up and you've had a productive day.

Now there's a cheerful thought.

(quick prayer for a small bit o' land...)

Heh heh!!!

Yeah. At least if there's a mile of land between me and them, it'd be a clear shot if I see 'em coming...

;-D

At least I managed not to spill anything nasty on myself. Just got a little muddy.

Whew...glad that's gone! That's the end of almost all the trash out there, except smaller pockets and who-knows-how-much buried stuff that I don't really want to deal with. I still have plenty of room in the back for my garden. There's one tarp there already and I plan to lay another one...after a month or so I'll rent a rototiller and prep them for seeding.

Now I've just done the dishes and some tidying in here, and I'm stopping for coffee before continuing. May do a small bit of potting this afternoon. I want to plant cat grass, if nothing else, and may also use the two big pots I'd purchased awhile back at Value Village. I think zinnias would work well in those...though I guess they'd need to start indoors.

Should be very cheerful when they finally bloom!

I wish I was there...I love that kind of work.

Soooo.....did you ever hear any more about the illegal trash dumper? Did the landlord get in trouble?

I've been wondering about that too...

From here on out it should be more fun. Gardening and lawn work are far more positive types of work than hauling garbage is. ;-)

I don't think we know any more than you do. Don't think the landlord got in trouble. I still think he may have been taken advantage of - the handiman guy took the money for the work and didn't let on what he was doing.

But it's not like we can really ask him outright how much he paid the guy....and what he told him to do with the stuff.

Kitty grass planted...hopefully should see some little shoots within a couple of days. And hopefully it'll save the one plant they've been bothering - which happens to be the sickliest plant. Grrr...

Also planted some zinnia seeds in the two big pots I had. Those do well in pots, don't they? I'm keeping them indoors for now.

They were about a quarter for each packet of seeds...so even if they don't work, it won't be a horrible loss. I'll just start something else in those pots. At least I got the drainage holes poked out and soil in 'em.

Hm...there's an espresso machine on Craigslist for $25. Actually it's a dual drip machine and espresso maker...don't really need the drip coffee maker, though.

Can't remember how much that one at Value Village was.

Ugh...that potting soil smells sulphery, so I feel even dirtier than I really am. ;-)

Take over coffee and make them demonstrate that it works before you buy ;-)

Especially if it's a single guy sellin' it. ;~D

~course~, I'd question the judgment of a guy who's selling a perfectly good coffee making device.

Speaking of which, I think I left my grinder behind - on the top shelf. I'm borrowing one from Hair for the time being, but if it IS there, and if it wouldn't be super pricey to send...maybe you could send it next time you're makin' a trip to the post office anyway? No hurry or anything, since I've got a working one.

Unless it's wherever the missing remote is. *sigh*

Heh...

Yer bad.

But it's someone named "Carol", so I don't think there are any possiblities there. ;-)

I hate to get one with a drip pot I don't need, though. Maybe I should just keep watching Value Village.

I'll look for the grinder... By the way... I know the remote got into the van. I thought I tucked it up by the front passenger seat, but I know it got there. Grr...

Well, I can look again. It's possible it fell out, I suppose. Or that it's just worked under the carpets.

I clearly remember your having it at the last minute and putting it in so I wouldn't forget it, so I'm mystified.

It's just not in there. If it was on that side...it's quite likely it fell out one of the times I was taking the cats in or out.
