(((TAR X Sneak-Peek Ping)))

CBS, possibly feeling nervous about the TAR franchise, has jumped the gun and revealed the new Amazing Race teams nearly two months before the show's premier. Along with a brand new time slot.

The theme this season is "diversity". Diversity, diversity and still more diversity.

"We have a very diverse cast," said [Bertram] van Munster [executive producer and co-creator of the show] "It's almost a true representation of what America is all about."
Diversity is the word as 'Amazing Race 10' starts in Seattle

Proving that "diversity" also means "multicultural" and "politically correct", the great minds at TAR have assembled a veritable Rainbow Coalition of teams for the tenth Race.

There's the token gay couple as well as the dysfunctional daddy/daughter team (the daughter is gay, too). But we're also treated to ... hang on to your burkas ... an all Muslim team!

Then there's the Indian-American team (not to be confused with American-Indians); a pair of Asian-American brothers; a pair of African-American sisters; two best friends from rehab; two beauty queens; two cheerleaders; a bickering dating couple and an amputee.

But surprisingly enough, there is no "old couple" this time.

Click the link below for photos and bios of the 12 new teams.

Special thanks to elc for forwarding that link!

The new TAR time slot is now Sundays at 8pm, but depending on ratings CBS might switch it to another night. No official date for the premier has been announced but it will probably be in September. See ya then!

Aaaccckkk! My stomach dropped in excitement when I saw the ping. Alas, still 2 months away. Thanks for the ping to the sneak-peek jonny! I hate these periods when there's no Survivor or TAR.

Thanks for the ping, Jonny.

Think this one will be as "good" as the Family Edition? They shouldn't mess with the working formula.

You have to wonder if the muslim family will simply slit everyone's throat in the night, like the quran tells them to do. Now THAT would be "must see TV!"

I think this one sounds ten times worse than the family edition.

There are 4 teams I am interested in, the Indian couple, the Asian brothers, the Iron Man competitors and of course the gals from ALabama. :) The brothers will more than likely be the team to beat though. My uncle has been married for 40 years to my Chinese aunt, they live in Hong Kong. My cousins are extremely smart, resourceful and HIGHLY competitive...... most Asians are. Lot of models on the teams this year too! I imagine you like the two female teams. :) Looks fun. Hopefully this one will be much better than the last two seasons of TAR. If not, I am all for them having an all-stars TAR and bring back the favorites to compete.

I hate these periods when there's no Survivor or TAR.

I don't understand why CBS doesn't stagger these shows and let TAR run in Survivor's time slot between Survivor seasons.

Still, two months doesn't seem like that far to go for the next season to start. Things'll hopefully be settling down enough for me that I can actually watch TV then.

Since "Monday Night Football" is now "Sunday Night Football", I don't think they made a very good marketing move. But who am I to say? Most people have access to TIVO, VCR's etc, that it probably doesn't matter much. I rarely watch any TV on in it's correct timeslot any more. Survivor is probably the exception, because I want to see who's voted off in real time, and not hear it announced on the radio the next day.

Thanks, sj, for the ping. What a lineup. I get less and less thrilled with this show every season. I live near SEattle where multiculturalism runs rampant and bums rule the streets. We're so "tolerant" that we don't even arrest poor downtrodden drug dealers and bling-covered hookers who sell their wares in front of Nordstrom's, the most exclusive store in town--and sometimes inside the store too. Perhaps the challenge in Seattle will be for the teams to get into Nordies without being accosted. Or to march in a Rainbow Coalition Gay Pride Anti-War parade, one of the main events of the city.

And you can bet that whoever wins will, like the hippies from last season, bash the President and say they "want to go to Cuba to kiss Castro." (Direct quote.)

Meanwhile, there's a similar show on this summer, Treasure Hunters, I believe the name is. Monday nights at 9:00 on NBC or CBS (forget which). Teams of three look for clues around America. They tend to be harder to find than the TAR clues. So far, the hunt has taken them to places loaded with American history. Imagine that. And the teams include "Air Force," "ex-CIA," "Miss USA," nifty working-class guys from Boston called "Southies," a bunch of goofy but smart nerds called "Geniuses," etc. It's a fun show, though the announcer/host fellow is a big stiff. They need to work out that particular kink and this show will be quite entertaining.

The remaining teams are going overseas next week. Paris and who knows where else. They also have a feature that allows the audience to win prize money every week by correctly following a clue either online or by text messaging. I'm on Pacific time, and so are all the winners I've seen, so apparently they have a different winner for each time zone. Ingenious. Check it out.

These are the times when I am glad I own several shows on DVD. I have 4 episodes to go on season 1 of 24. I originally started watching it near the very end of season 3 on tv. Then it's season 2 followed by season 3. If I still have time, I have 9 seasons of Stargate SG-1 to tide me over. For a relaxation and comedy break, I can watch one of several of my cartoon dvd's {Flintstones, Tom & Jerry, Warner Brothers classics, The Pink Panther, The Wacky Racers, Johnny Quest, Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, etc, etc, etc.

Yeah I know ... but even with all the "diversity" crap in this race, the teams seem to be fairly grounded, so hopefully this will put TAR back on track. No kids, no hippies, no lame destinations ...

I'm not thrilled with the new time slot though.

I hadn't thought about that. Sunday nights in general seem like a bad time to air a reality show. They work much better during the week, IMO.

The strained "diversity" of the new race doesn't make me optimistic either, but once we get past all that PC garbage, the teams look like a solid group of people. They could surprise us.
