Anyone reading anything good?
Thank you very much! Lots of good stuff there.
I am writing actually. Sci-fi novel.
"Polio..An American Story".
The history of Polio research, fundraising, and how the battle was finally won. You will recognize a lot of the same methods we see today in fundraising and disease politics.
I'm currently reading "Vengeance" about the Munich attacks on the Israeli athletes, and the hunt for those responsible.
I hear Spielberg is about to screw up this history, so I wanted to brush up.
Just read "Term Limits" by Vince Flynn.
It was a page-turner of a beach book.
The kind that has you reading as you wait, in the crosswalk, for the light to change on A1A.
Next vacation, I'll buy another.
Read the first two chapters of James Clavell's "Sho-Gun".
You'll know if you'll like it by then. It's one of my all time favorites.
Next April is the 100th anniversary of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and subsequent fires that destroyed the city. There are two new books out, and I've read both. Just finished the 2nd one, and have now picked up Vince Flynn's new novel.
I read State of Fear and recommend it.
You have great taste. Any cold winter night with Patrick O'Brian is time well spent.
That one interests me.
Another great book by him....
Mind candy ;o)
Good book.
Reading God is Near Us by Pope Benedict. As usual with his books, an excellent read.
"The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson is an outstanding true story of the Chicago Worlds Fair of 1893, nicknamed the White City for its majestic beauty. Architect Daniel Burnham built it. Serial killer Dr. H. H. Holmes used it to lure victims to his Worlds Fair Hotel, designed for murder. Larson does a brilliant job weaving their stories around the story of the fair itself. This is a very big selling book. I hope they make a movie out of it.
A timeless classic.
Recent books read: (please excuse lack of titles and/or authors - I don't have the books within reach.)
SHAM - Good read
Nursing Against The Odds - Good read if you are in the health care profession. I don't recommend it if you are going to spend some time in the hospital.
A recent published book by Christina Hoff Summers about the overuse of therapy in America - I think it's called One Nation Under Therapy. Good read!
A recently published book about the murder of Madalyn O'Hair Murray. - another good read.
When I was little, my mother got me hooked on ERB. First Tarzan, then John Carter of Mars (Barsoom), then the lost world books. Wow! What great books to ensure a little boy will always love to read. She got me hooked on them before I could read, reading to me every night before bed. Then she had me read along to her, and eventually, I wound up reading to my mother!

What??? No one is reading Tookie's books?
I think you just paid ERB the highest possible compliment.
I had no interest in reading it. I loved The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, and thought the movies were amazing. I never cared to look into Harry Potter. Then, one night I was terribly bored and the first movie was on cable. I was really surprised. I figured that it was a little kid's book. It wasn't, and the movie was quite good. After seeing it, I decided that I needed to read the books, and I haven't stoped reading them since.
