Those are some magnificent old photographs there.

That life was a very healthy life; when 90% of Americans had a rural lifestyle, it was a very healthy nation.

Thanks so much for sharing that with me.

My maternal grandfather homesteaded about 8 sections of Montana after coming from Russia, my paternal one had 10 sections nearby, and being raised with a stepdad, his land along the Red River of Minnesota had been homesteaded in the 1860s. His was Norweigan ancestry.

Lots of sheep, cattle, horses, hogs, goats and chickens in that bunch. My mom even had a viable operation raising ducks and peacocks for a few years.

Sometimes old farmsteads make me sad when I see them and think of how much work went into them and how they have gone back to the earth.

"We will be heading off to ski in Northern Michigan at the end of the week."

That sounds a lot crazier than surfing in Oregon. Personally, I wouldn't do either, but I've been in Michigan this time of year. It was awful! Barely fit for polar bears.

LOL! I'm psychic? I didn't do much shopping today. I try to avoid the day after Christmas as much as the day after Thanksgiving. I stopped at this one litle shop that I've never been in just to see what they had, and it was nuts. And I had to go to Walmart to pick up a couple of things, but that was about it.

I went really early. It was raining here, so not many people were out. JC Penny's had tall boots for $29. I got a couple pair. I also got a pair at Macy's for half price. Really cool Carlos Santana boots. (I indulged. LOL!) Now I get to wear them around the house! LOL!

I got home before the rush, so I was happy.

I'm not much of a boot wearer, but I sure do need some dark brown dress shoes. I'm just very picky and have a hard time finding shoes I really like...and they have to be comforatable.

It gets cold here. (I think!) It's been warm and raining now for a while. A friend I worked with last year wore boots everywhere, even when we went to NM! So I got in that habit, too.

There's a brand I like called Naturalizer. Very comfortable. I have a parking pass at work right now, but usually I have to walk about 5 blocks into the plant each day. Have to have comfortable shoes. Aerosoles are usually comfortable, too. And Dexter! I'm just starting to get back into a 2 inch heel again.

I've been criticized as being a clothes horse. But, oh well. Goodwill likes me, too, when I donate old clothes.

It got cold in Colorado too, and I did wear boots a little more often there, but mainly for the snow, or I wore dress cowboy boots for dancing. Those are really very comfortable. Mostly though, I'm a sandal type, and even when I lived in Colorado, I was barefoored indoors year round and wore sandals, or at least shoes I could slip out of easily, everywhere else. Dress shoes were almost always open-toed.

I don't like wearing a lot of clothes either and get by with the minimum at any given time. In summer, my pajamas are shorts and tank top. In winter, I switch to fleece bottoms with tank top. If I get cold, I throw on a robe for a little while. If the temperature hits 60, I'm in shorts and I wear short sleeves always. The only tops I own with long sleeves are very sheer and the only sweaters I own have short sleeves, except for one that I wear like a jacket. I just get too hot indoors in long sleeves any time of year, and I am indoors most of the time. I have mostly lighter weight jackets, although I do have one warm coat for when it is really cold out.
