Actually, it's all about power. "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

I believe that whole-heartedly.

I'm like Frodo...I don't want power. I just want my little corner of the Shire.

Thanks!

Merry Christmas to you also!

Just out of curiousity, is that a giant albino sloth? Cool creature, whatever it is.

good question.
the answer is: no one is absolutely certain why the Japanese developed the asymmetric bow.
there are many hypotheses, but only one supported by biomechanics and fitting perfectly with the Japanese social ethos.
That hypotheses states that the Japanese realized, some thousand years ago, that holding a strong bow with the metacarpals of the bow hand axially aligned with the bones of the forearm allows for a more robust and comfortable/sustainable grip.
In order to achieve that alignment, the bow MUST be asymmetric.
A side benefit of this design, when coupled with a loose grip (and having the arrow on the right side of the bow rather than the left), is the way the unbalanced mass of the upper limb causes the bow to swivel in the shooting hand, negating recoil when fired.
a further benefit: such a long bow allows for a very strong draw-weight bow with a very moderate, comfortable draw gradient.

Would these bows be built left-hand vs right-hand? (I shoot left-handed.)

Hey, guy!

Merry Christmas!
How have you been?
Are you home for the rest of the season, now?

Merry Christmas (early!) We just got our tree this afternoon, and I'll work on decorating it later when James is in bed.

I got my hair cut, too!

Merry Christmas, TC! How short is your hair, now? And how long was it? It seems the last photo of you in your PJ's, it was fairly short...that was about this time last year...:o]
