I know Wikipedia has been criticized a lot lately, but they have a good definition of a Laffer Curve.

"The Laffer curve, popularized and promoted by economist Arthur Laffer and often used to justify tax cuts, is intended to show that government can maximize tax revenue by setting a tax rate at the peak of this curve and that raising taxes further actually decreases revenue. The idea is clearest at both extremes of taxation—zero percent and one-hundred percent—where the government collects no revenue. At one extreme, a 0% tax rate means the government's revenue is, of course, zero. At the other, where there is a 100% tax rate, the government collects zero revenue because (in a "rational" economic model) taxpayers have no incentive to work or they avoid taxes, and the government collects 100% of nothing. Somewhere between 0% and 100%, therefore, lies a tax rate percentage that will maximize revenue."

Okay, now I'm going to bed. Good night!

I just happened to be reading it, when I Googled looking for the image I posted, I then went back and I saw a link on Wikipedia, a good article that's for sure, but I find it disturbing that a Islamic scholar and John Maynard Keynes can take some of the credit!!

Goodnight tulip!!

humans have a tenuous grasp of reality to start with.

those who make a living as professional liars (come now - what do you think "acting", "pop music", and this curious phenomenon of "being famous for being famous" is, aside from professional presentation of a falsehood as reality?) are even less grounded.

Add success, groupies, yes-men, sycophantic press coverage, and absurd wealth to the mix, and I'm pretty sure that their grasp of reality devolves to the very basics of gravity and appetite (if even those factors).

They forget that they produce NOTHING save for diverting frivolity, and begin to believe they are important, even wise. I suspect that for some of them, the more intelligent of them, this is an attempt to fill the vacuum of value in their lives. For others, it is simple delusion. Lacking, as HTB pointed out, the imposition of anyone saying otherwise, they fall deep into their narcissism... and come to believe that *everyone* either should or does share their opinion of their worth.

sad... to see humans so corrupted.

bow (Yumi) project sitrep:

I have removed the grand majority of the epoxy residue from the bared face of the core.
I have repaired all of the minor secondary cracks.
The core is definitely sound enough to be rebuilt into a bow with a new belly element.

now, a twist:
I have also managed to completely reassemble the bamboo belly element, using carpenter's glue to puzzle the pieces back together.

it is tempting me to do something... stupid.

I'll apply some fiberglass over the sundered area on the tension side, and then test the hell out of it.
I don't expect it to survive testing...
but, if it does...
I might just repair the Mad Bastard with the piece that failed.

I keep trying to bear in mind that I am not Elrond, I do not live in Rivendell, the Mad Bastard is not Narsil...

but it tempts me, I tell you.

Are you going to try to make some archer's armour to accompany the bow?

nawsuh - if I ever make another set of armor, it'll be out of modern ballistic materials... or powered, if AMRI gets its products up to snuff
