It's kinda like a native dance around the campfire, a celebration of unity and community spirit. HULA WOKA HULA WOKA SOMETHING NOT RIGHT
MANY WICKY ICKY THINGS GONNA HAPPEN TONIGHT
I love dancing around the fire

thanks to my sister, I have photos of the (emasculated but soon to be repaired) Mad Bastard in action:

need longer arrows... this one, fired from the emasculated bow and a short draw, went about 150yards

I can imagine! That is one big bow; the release must be sweet. Intended to be asymmetrical?!

That is certainly one more healthy looking mad bastard.
The bow doesn't look bad either.
Congrats on the resurrection of you both. I'm into that, you know.

sionnsar,
yes, the Yumi (Japanese longbow) is designed to be asymmetrical.
Please note, in the pic of the drawn bow, how the metacarpals of my left hand align perfectly with the radius and ulna - this provides a MUCH steadier and more comfortable grip for using a strong bow. It is also an inevitable result of drawing a Yumi. Though no records exist from the developmental process some 1000+ years ago, there had to be SOME reason the Japanese decided to go with an asymmetric design.
the release is indeed sweet, and notably quiet.
even before he broke, drawing Mad Bastard was surprisingly easy - due to the way the Japanese method prescribes, at a guess.
NNB,
Yes, so Alice tells me.
Walking is a good way to start. 30 minutes every day. If that is too easy, start carrying a ruck. Continue, adding weight incrementally, until you can carry yourself plus 1/4 your body mass comfortably for 30 minutes of brisk walking. then you will be well on your way to solid human fitness (if you were my age, I'd say scale up to 1/3 your body mass).

well, before he broke, he had an (estimated) draw weight of 90lbs
I hope to restore him to that strength
so... ah... yeah - prob'ly COULD launch a 2x4 :)

the front facing of bamboo snapped and explosively delaminated from the core under testing.
this was a result of lamination flaws, partly my error in technique, partly a problem with the epoxy I chose to use.
I was able to safely remove the rest of the failed element without further damaging the bow. What you see in the photos is a bow with the core and backface, but no (front or "belly").
As the belly forms the TENSION surface of a bow, everyting behind it is under COMPRESSION. Compressed elements are the real driving spring in any bow. Losing the belly element reduced the thickness of the compressed cross section, which DRASTICALLY weakens the bow's draw-weight.
Loss of strength is not directly proportional to the loss of thickness - there is a synergy involved whose equation I have not calculated.
In this case, the bow lost .180" in thickness (out of ~.750"). The net result is a bow with only 2/5 of the full draw-weight.
