"I'm mulling over another design with three balls on a strand. The balls on each end contain electromagnets that ...." I'm printing up several thousand cards that say, "Take two of these and call me in the morning."

Sounds a little too aggressive. I like the idea of the balls gently "knocking" around, subtley building to a big bang, as it were.
Think of the balls as truly extended foreplay.

Hey! It was
Heinlein! (About number fifteen)
I knew I'd read it somewhere!

It is a lefty language. The U.N. stamp is enough to certify it so. When I first joined Mensa, I was afraid that it was too left leaning, but there are a lot of conservative members, too--and their voices are heard regularly.

Heinlein is a veritable quote machine. I should have picked that up.
To: Das Outsider
There would have to be more conservatives in Mensa than liberals, seeing liberals can't do logic!!

You're thinking of a magnet attracting a free metal object on open space. Yes, under those conditions, the action is rapid as the attraction snaps them together. Within the confines of the intended operating environment, however, the sliding ball will not be free to move nearly so rapidly. It will be restricted to a slow, sssslllllliiiiiiddiiinnnggg motion, from one end to the other. In fact, position sensing could be built in so that the eletromegnets would not switch until the sliding ball reached the active end of the strand, thus ensuring a full traverse of the length of the strand each time.
What's not to like? Slow. Deliberate. Highly tactile. Repetitive. KA-BOOM!

I'll bet that there are more liberals seeing as how liberals seem to place more emphasis on association than action.

You have a point about that, liberals group everything together - that's why they regard a belief in coincidence in political matters as naivete.

But I've got to ask, how/where did you get a graphic of my wife in that "Santa Baby" get-up? You're a lucky man. Hope you are being a good Santa to her.
