I have had firsthand experience with mules and (fortunately) one henny (never saw it spelled hinny, but that may be a regional thing - my father first told me about hennys and his experience with both hybrids had led him to believe that there is a good reason why there are so many more mules than there are hennys. I have no particular wish to own one of either type (I like thoroughbreds) but if I needed a good draft animal and intended to really work him hard, I'd get a mule in a heartbeat. They are much tougher than horses, and disinclined to work themselves to death, unlike their paternal relatives. When a mule has had it for the day, he simply stops working, and your opinion on the subject is of no importance to him. There is a problem with working mules in tandem, as they become attached to each other emotionally, and will quite often refuse to work at all if you split up the team. This is fine if you know about it in advance, but it is irritating when you buy a single animal and find out later that the reason he won't work is because somehow you forgot to get his teammate. Otherwise, a very good draft animal, also rideable (they can jump, too) and less finicky about their food than horses. But if you want a truly fascinating animal, check out a waterbuffalo.

I'm on PST, but times on & off don't relate much to that. I keep a schedule more like MST or CST, depending.

Greenwich Meridian Time???? Where are you? Are we bouncing signals of satellites again? When I was a kid, there were no satellites. Then Sputnik went up and all the pigeons were out of a job in a few short years.

I'm here in EST with you, Doc.
It seems most of the Undead Thread is on the East Coast of the United States, but Free Republic is a global phenomenon, and we have a good share of folks from the "old sod."

He is still alive! I doff my chapeau to him for such longevity.
Please give to him my regards when you next see him.

Oh. How's the weather? We were warm and wet today - rained pichforks and other things most of the afternoon, but was in the low 70's (F). A good rain in South Georgia just pours down like a waterfall, but it's a warm rain, even in the winter.
