That map cannot possibly be right. It shows the county I grew up in as 80 - 100% Pop, when everyone knows it's "Vernors." *\;-)

i was not aware that there WAS a part of the bagpipe where the melody comes out one of my brothers was going to learn to play the pipes but all he had was the little tube with the finger holes ?tuner (that's what comes to mind - it's only been 40 years or so) he never got the bag part i think the old man was grateful i've always loved the sound of the pipes if you play a tape of bagpipe music loud enough it will drown out all of the horrible grinding noise of the dentist's drilling shaping etc the only problem i had with the tapes was that my earphones didn't block any sound coming OUT and i had the volume up full blast on the tape player the dentist was going deaf and the patients in the waiting room were wondering who was playing bagpipes in the back

Hi Guy. I just logged back on after eating supper. I'm still the same - congested. I went to Walmart today, and they didn't have a generic for that Coriceden (sp?) stuff. So I'm just going to stick with hot tea and vitamin c.

Did you also happen to read "Penrod and Sam," by Booth Tarkington?
It was early boys' literature, but I liked his depiction of the thinking of a young boy.

Mama in German is Mama. Mutter is formal for Mother. Grossmutter is formal Grandmother, but if you want to call a Nana or Gramma in German, it would be Oma...(or Opa, for grandad.)
Clear as mud, yes?

I finally got out the Christmas music... So did I. But mine starts out:
Kee yeled yoolad lanoo
bayn nitan lanoo
vat'hi hamisrah alshichmo yoetz el gibor avi ad
sarshalom
and then continues:
Iudicii signum:
tellus sudore madescet.
E celo rex advenire
per secla futurus...
It's my longtime favorite, "A Medieval Christmas" by the Boston Camerata. The first is Hebrew, Is. IX:6. There's little that normal folk would think of as "Christmasy," but I have to admit to very eclectic tastes.
Next up: "The Tubadours" -- "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" by a tuba quartet.
