Heck, if the majority of D's were like Zell Miller, I'd probably become one at this point.

Yep...me too.

Although the chances of D's ever becoming like that are about like there being snow in Galveston Texas in July next year.....which is why Zell became a Republican.

The majority of R's won't become like that until the majority of the country is like that.....and believe me we're not there yet and it will be a huge fight to get there. Thank God a lot of them are like that already, and a lot of them are. Frankly, if we all decide to give up on them and just whine, we'll have 8 years of Hillary and the Dems, from which there will likely be no return. The war is engaged, just because a few battles haven't gone our way is no reason to give up. Grima Wormtongue tried to do that to Rohan, I'd rather not listen to the "it's hopeless" screed just yet.........

"...which is why Zell became a Republican."

When did this happen? He said he wouldn't switch parties.

Security of our country has been given lip-service, as far as I'm concerned, as long as the borders are kept wide open.

I'm in agreement that the immigration thing is horrendous. It needs fixing, but I don't think it is hopeless, far from it.

That being said, the idea that our security isn't working or has no reality and isn't real because the borders aren't fixed is a screed that is way overblown. I'm not saying there's not a problem so don't go there, but I am saying that Al Queda is losing the war because of the other things that are going on and going on very succesfully. they are being killed one at a time and sometines in bunches. Their leadership is decimated and in hiding and losing its capacity to do anything meaningful but blow up other Muslims (don't thing the Muslims aren't noticing, either). We are winning in Iraq and the War on Terror, and to dismiss that as irrelevant because of the illegals from Mexico is wrong.....and it's simply untrue. The linkage is not real. Not there. That Al Queda is losing is very real.

I thought I heard him say it on one of the cable shows last year. He also said he can't support anything the D's stand for today, and supports 90% of what the R's stand for.

Zell said, when asked why he hasn't left the Democrat party, that he hasn't left them, they've left him (or something very close to that). He also said he's always been a Democrat and always will be. I don't believe he's switched parties...it's just been hijacked by left-wing wackos.

"Pretty good, but very angry at the so called war critics lately........can't get over what traitorous b*stards they are... "

I second that !

I read the best analogy regarding our security "system". If someone pays for the best, most expensive, security system possible for their home, and they refuse to turn it on or leave open a back door, what kind of security is that?

Thanks for the correction.

The Dems left him more than 25 years ago. He personally told my brother that he should have done what he did 20 years ago. He's a gentleman and a true patriot, but he was snookered for a long time and admitted it. There isn't a chance in Hell of the Dems ever getting back to where they were almost sane anytime soon.

Yes he is; he's a great man, whom I admire. Very few can hold a candlestick next to him. Sadly, I think you're right about the Dems. They're destroying our country.

The Big Gun takes aim speaks out:

excerpt:

"Thank you very much and good evening to all of you. And I’m -- when I heard about your gathering, and since I work just down the street from here I thought I’d drop in and say hello.

Let me thank the good people of Frontiers of Freedom, of course, George Landrith, Kerri Houston, Al Lee, for bringing us all together this evening. And I see many good friends in the room, including current and former office holders, as well.

It’s a pleasure to see all of you. I’m sorry we couldn’t be joined by Senators Harry Reid, John Kerry, and Jay Rockefeller. They were unable to attend due to a prior lack of commitment. (Laughter.) I’ll let you think about that one for a minute. (Applause.)

I hope you’ll permit me, ladies and gentlemen, to say a few words that were not part of my remarks that I’d planned originally this evening but which concern a matter of great importance to our entire nation.

Most of you know, I have spent a lot of years in public service, and first came to work in Washington back in the late 1960s. I know what it’s like to operate in a highly charged political environment, in which the players on all sides of an issue feel passionately and speak forcefully. In such an environment people sometimes lose their cool, and yet in Washington you can ordinarily rely on some basic measure of truthfulness and good faith in the conduct of political debate. But in the last several weeks we have seen a wild departure from that tradition. And the suggestion that’s been made by some U.S. senators that the President of the United States or any member of this administration purposely misled the American people on pre-war intelligence is one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever aired in this city. (Applause.)

Some of the most irresponsible comments have, of course, come from politicians who actually voted in favor of authorizing the use of force against Saddam Hussein. These are elected officials who had access to the intelligence, and were free to draw their own conclusions. They arrived at the same judgment about Iraq’s capabilities and intentions that -- made by this Administration and by the previous administration. There was broad-based, bipartisan agreement that Saddam Hussein was a threat, that he had violated U.N. Security Council Resolutions, and that, in a post-9/11 world, we could not afford to take the word of a dictator who had a history of weapons of mass destruction programs, who had excluded weapons inspectors, who had defied the demands of the international community, whose nation had been designated an official state sponsor of terror, and who had committed mass murder. Those are the facts. (Applause.)

What we’re hearing now is some politicians contradicting their own statements and making a play for political advantage in the middle of a war. The saddest part is that our people in uniform have been subjected to these cynical and pernicious falsehoods day in and day out. American soldiers and Marines are out there every day in dangerous conditions and desert temperatures –- conducting raids, training Iraqi forces, countering attacks, seizing weapons, and capturing killers –- and back home a few opportunists are suggesting they were sent into battle for a lie.

The President and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory, or their backbone -– but we’re not going to sit by and let them rewrite history. (Applause.)

We’re going to continue throwing their own words back at them. And far more important, we’re going to continue sending a consistent message to the men and women who are fighting the war on terror in Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other fronts. We can never say enough how much we appreciate them, and how proud they make us. (Applause.)

They and their families can be certain that this cause is right and just, and the performance of our military has been brave and honorable. And this nation will stand behind our fighting forces with pride and without wavering until the day of victory. (Applause.) "

Full speech

Is it any wonder that the dems greatest fantasy is a riff between President Bush and Vice President Cheney ? LOL

Just one question for you. Would you have believed in October of 2001 that we wouldn't have another attack in this country by now?

The lock analogy doesn't work because there are other things happening to prevent Al Queda from getting to the door.

Hey......I'm not saying everything is peachy, or that they shouldn't be doing better on the border front. NOT. NOT. NOT. saying that. Just disagree with you about the border issue being the smoking gun as to our security not working, when in fact....it is working quite well.

Frankly, I wish the press would COOL IT about how vunerable the cargo section of our commercial aircraft remains. They're just broadcasting an open invitation to very islamo-wacko, kooks or wannabe on the planet.

One little problem with that.

AQ hides, for years, in sleeper cells, waiting.

We don't know if they've come through the borders....and we won't know that, either, unless/until they succeed, again.

I don't think leaving doors open does anything but INVITE criminal elements into one's house.

I agree; it's almost like the media is announcing to AQ exactly where to go next......gee, they wouldn't think of doing that, would they?

They're hitting heretofore unknown levels of stupidity, beats anything thing I've ever seen. They might as well paint a bullseye on the belly of every airplane.

I have to agree with you. It is almost as if things are pretty much back to normal...a lot higher security awareness of course!, but I think our sense of security is returning to normal.

This is not to say we can become complacent or ignore border security, but I think we Americans value our freedom too much and while this attack on American values will be never forgotten, I do believe our sense of national freedom is in the process of returning for many of us.

Yes, but.... AQ henchmen came and went at will, and for the most part legally, for a long time prior to 9-11. Nothing says that that can't happen again or that they (AQ) won't or haven't already recruited some homegrown nutjobs to do their dirty work for them the minute we show a lack of strength or support for the war.
