The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

She is that... special for what purpose is yet to be determined ;~D

hehehe. As in the Special Olympics? I have a cat like that. Very "special" but so unique. ;)

Well, we finally got rain on Sat night into Sunday. I didn't believe the weatherman so didn't put the horses up on Saturday. So, they got their blankets extremely muddy from rolling. They had a good time. I put them up Sunday morning when I fed and washed their blankets. It rained all day Sunday. It was still too wet to let them out on Monday so they were cooped up until this morning. I took my camera with me so I could get some good pictures when I turned them loose. First, they had to roll:

Next, they did some running:

Then, they decided to play fight:

Finally, they decided to investigate what the heck I was doing:

They were finally ready to eat breakfast, and wondering why I was standing around taking pictures instead of getting their food ready.

Rose! Hi there! Any new news on the farm?
Well we now have one in Virginia. :)
We have our house on the market and have interest, so are hoping for an offer soon. We may move to Virginia before we sell, I am not sure yet. The new place has an old farmhouse that is being restored. I am very excited about it. I can't wait to plant a huge garden, get the place back to a working farm and plant a cottage garden in front of the house. :) There is so much land I will be spoilt! There are 3 barns, and 1 of them needs a little care. We will be getting goats, more chickens, beef cattle and a couple of dairy cows so that we can have our own milk and I can make cheese and butter. As you have mentioned before, the area is beautiful! We will be within walking distance of TN and not far from NC. There are lots of hiking and cycling trails very close and I plan to make the most of them. How are things with you?

I am in no immediate hurry. I just need to do it before summer, let me know when you have a class on the weekend and we will drive down.

I like that one too! I think I need to have it made into wallpaper border. I have the one of them both rearing up playing as my desktop wallpaper.

I read where you have moved to Virginia. I am originally from Va. I grew up in Portsmouth, but my dad's family is from around Bassett and Rocky Mount, Va. I still have lots of relatives there but most of them that I remember are dead now. My dad and his older brother are both buried on my dad's place (40 acres). His property was within walking distance of Smith Mountain Lake between Penhook and Gladehill. I used to walk through the woods with my dad to go fishing. My cousin has the place now.

Lovely place! I just love those old Va farm houses. You are moving to a very lovely part of the state. When I go home for a visit, I take 81 east of Knoxville, then pick up either 58 (most scenic but slowest way) or 460 east to Portsmouth.

Great pictures. I really like the Bay.

I got a couple of mine. Rocky is so funny, he alway's bows up and runs thru the opening where the electric fence should be:) Harley just walks thru.

Then they mosied up the fence line and had to stop and pick at each other a bit.

Fantastic pictures of yours, ShakeNJake! I can never catch mine while they're still in the air when they rear up. It's always been all over by the time I get the digital to take the picture.

Becky I think your stallion is remarkable that he'll play gentle enough face games without busting through that wire. I know he'd do serious damage if they were together, I've seen it :~\ but he's a good guy. He doesn't look like he gets much winter coat...

Oh - and mine all like to bust through the gate opening too... like they're getting away with something... 'specially the pony. :~D

Was nice weather here today too... I spent it up at the beach house visiting with dad. Just got home, and haven't read all the posts at all, just the pictures :~D

He's very respectful of the fence as long as it's on. Last year I was having trouble because the fence had gotten so old and the grass had grown up around it. The new fence is very hot, and no grass.

:(

We are suppose to be clear and 60 today. I'm spending the day with Jenny. I'm going to go back to Pet Smart today, and look at pads, and take the cataloge I got and see if the lady there knows anything about some of the ones in it. I worry about ordering stuff from a magazine.

Then we are going to Sears to look at walk behind weed eaters. That is the next most important thing I need to get to be ready for spring and weeds growing. I can get by with the pads I have for awhile.

We do have a 30% chance of rain on Sat, and 40 on Sun. Crossing fingers. We need it sooooooooo bad. But at least the wind has finally slowed down.

I've thought about sewing my cashell to the pad, or sewing a pocket in the pad for it... but I'm not all that talented..

That wouldn't solve the over gripe you have with it though, that it makes the saddle slip around easier getting on.
