This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I'm doing ok. School, work and pets are keeping me busy these days. What business are you looking into?
Let me know when you are set up I need to get cpr certified.
I can certify you now. I just need two days notice because I still am renting equipment.
No charge:')
Hair, horses look like they are so happy to be outside in the sun "nekkid". Sun is shining brightly here this morning.
Great pics! Of course yours always are. The horses look to be in great shape too. I just love that Pony! She has such character. She's worth all her quirks just for that.
We finally got some sun here too. I was ready for it. It's supposed to be sunny and in the 60's until the weekend, then it's gonna rain again. That just really pi$$es me off! I need a ride!
The ponies did love runnin nekkid. As soon as they got a little warm the hair just started falling off them. They think one nice day and it must be spring. It's supposed to be nice again today, but I've got to be on the road all day. I think I'll take their blankets off again though, even if it's not quite warm yet when I leave.
Too bad not the kind of character you could ever trust with a child ;~D
Good morning.
We are heading for a really nice day here, altho it is cold this morning. The birdbath was frozen.
Today I'll ride again, and hope I have the ambition to move him out a bit more then yesterday:)
Hair your pictures were fun. I'm going to go let mine out of their runs for awhile this morning, even tho theres nothing for them eat out there. I'll have the camera read, but I don't expect anything as interesting as yours. Mine just don't seem to want to run and play without Rusty.
Becky
It was 42 degrees here yesterday now it's a snowstorm!
Reports on my riding lessons:
I think I am processing well! I get a lot of Good! Good! from my teacher and Missy (Quarter horse) seems to be responding better to me because I am more "natural" in the saddle.
We've been doing more cantering but I want to gallop!
There is nothing like galloping and feeling the wind through your hair, such a feeling of freedom to me!
However all my lessons so far have been in the indoor arena
I can almost put the saddle (Western) by myself but I my upper body strength, unlike my lower body as a walker, is not as it should be so I am starting to work out to improve that. Although I do brush her and I am putting her bridle on. She is a very good girl and quite Phlegmatic in nature.
I usually bring her apples and carrots as she looks at our lesson as a job and I want to "pay" her wages for a job well done. LOL
I have been experimenting with some different foods to see if she likes it.
Sometimes I cut the apples up and shake 'em in a bag with Quaker Oats Multi-Grain oatmeal and she really like that
I bought some parsley and I am gonna see how she likes that. Also I am gonna try some "Spring Mix" salad
I found these recipes on the Internet and I am going to make some when I squeeze in some time, as I am going to school, Spring term and taking 13 credits!
I will say this, after being around Missy and the other horses at the Stable I can see how its a natural leap to want a horse of your own!
Maybe some day!
Mine would play less without the pony, that's for sure.
Look forward to the pictures... though I have to leave here in a couple hours, I'll see them when I get back :~D
Well, at least you can picture how a real wind would feel through your hair!
Sound like your lessons are going well and you have a lot of confidence and guts! Good for you. Courage is the only thing you can't learn if you don't have it to start with.
As for lifting the saddle yourself... my best advice would be ride English! :~D Short of that though, is the saddle an older leather one? Some of the newer synthetic Western saddles aren't nearly as heavy as the old ones.
Actually I have galloped (with a horse that is!)
Its a been a long time but I still remember that wonderful feeling!

yeah its appears to be all leather
It pretty nice, detailed scrolled and such however I plan on asking Kelly (my teacher) about riding English, thanks
Some of those big ole saddles weigh 40 pounds. When you buy one, weight can be one of your important considerations... :~D
Well I don't know how much it weights but I do know its heavy!
Especially when you're trying to lift it over your head :~D
Hair,
They look terrific. I love that pony! What a head, what a mane. And I cant stand ponies. ;) She is something special.
She is that... special for what purpose is yet to be determined ;~D
